Hi, I have. a question about an overheating issue I have.
During a high pressure fuel injection cleaning I had the vehicle overheat. The coolant temp was above 240 and the oil pressure at 0? Ive never seen such an issue with the gauges.
I went to diagnose the current cooling fan and found that it is working. The fan kicks on with the AC running and without the AC on it kicks on at 225 and off at 217. I have a new cooling fan to install but im not sure this is the issue now. I can see the passenger side fan spinning however I cant see the drivers side fan because the alternator and abs module is in the way.
Has anyone experienced this overheating with oil pressure gauge reading 0 and high temp ?
I'm guessing you have two unrelated problems.
First is the oil pressure sender. The are very common to fail on the C5 though most seem to peg the needle instead of going to zero. There are a ton of threads on how to replace it.
Second problem. 240 is high. At that temp both fans should be in high speed mode which I believe is factory set at 236. My first to do if I had an issue like this is clean the AC condenser and radiator. Then clean them again. They get sooo dirty over time and sometimes a large object (like a plastic bag) will be sucked up and block air flow. I also would check the lower air dams.

Good advice here. I'm having some overheating issues and this is the first thing I'll be doing in the spring.
When you replace your oil pressure sensor, be sure to get/make a remote location kit so you can change that same sensor in about 5 minutes the next time it fails.
The strange thing is the fans are working at low speed and cooling. It doesn't get hot enough at idle for high speed too kick on.
it was just that one time that it got really hott. I don't know if if was anamoly or it may happen again with fan going bad ?
The vehicle had the oil presure switch changed out because it used to read 80psi all the time on oil gauge.
Im guessing that's different than the sensor ?

Unfortunately, the sensors go bad, even the replacements. JDMVETTE has wise advice with the remote relocation kit. When my oil pressure sender went bad, I went with the relocation kit. It's not cheap (though you can source individual pieces for less) it makes changing out the sender sooooo much easier.

1 question I have; are you still running the original thermostat? If yes, it's getting pretty old. When driving at highway speeds, you not only get increased airflow, you also get increased coolant flow, due to the water pump spinning faster. This may help a marginal 'stat work. I've been able to extend my arm and hand to feel if air is coming from whichever fan I place my hand behind (BE CAREFUL HERE!! Fans don't care if they blow air, or remove fingers!!!!). OEM fan motors are pretty durable, so I'd try to see if they both work on high AND low, THEN change the thermostat if it's old. Obviously, ✔ your air dam and check for any obstruction in front of the condensor. Hope this helps you.......
