Carbonfiber with a tinted clearcoat to hide it a bit?

I like the carbon fiber/tinted clearcoat idea.

Another thought/approach would be to take the same pewter as the car and just darken it up to create a noticeable contrast on the rear.

Also, I actually think black would work well because it would create a bit of a “two-tone theme” with the black convertible top.

Photoshop various ideas to see what you like best.

Good luck and have fun with it!

Black on the lower recessed section for the black diffuser look is common.
Look into the tiger shark rear bumper if you want to change it up.
I can't think of any solid color that would look good, even black wouldn't imo. On a pewter car, rear being a different color just makes it look like you hadn't finished painting it.

My old 98 had the lower part painted. I loved the look.

Take the pewter and throw a ton of pearl in it for the whole backside. This would basically blend with the whole body, yet jump out under sunlight.

I think doing the lower part in black would look best.

Or else, replace the rear bumper with carbon fiber.

I think just keeping it all pewter would be the best look, but if you have to do something different, paint the lower part of the rear fascia black (carbon flash metallic is suggested) as shown in the pic posted by knewblewkorvette.

And instead of paint, if you might want carbon fiber look (or not be so committed to a color), a nice carbon fiber vinyl wrap will do very well. A piece big enough for the rear bumper is going to be under $40 up to $100 if you get name brand.

Can you recommend anyone that sells precut rear bumper wraps for C5s?

You don't precut for vinyl wrap, that stuff stretches like saran wrap. They are sold 5ft wide x whatever length you'll need. You stretch it over, squeegie down and pull out the wrinkles, maybe use some heat, then cut as needed. Knifeless tape will give you the clean edges you need along the outside.

Just watched a video on the knife tape. It looks easy enough to use.

Good info, I was wondering how they cut the edges without scratching the paint.
