Gates are absolutely massive in the automotive world. They almost certainly supplied the OE hoses to GM, who then obviously apply a markup.
There is no reason to fear Gates. They have been in the belt and hose business for many, many decades and are, for all intents and purposes, the industry standard supplier.
Do the silicone hoses last longer in ratio to their cost as in three times longer life if the cost is three times more expensive and are they easier to remove after the clamp is taken off than normal hoses after being clamped on for more than a year?
I've known and used Gates hoses & belts for decades however when a hose is nearly 2" shorter than the OEM that came off it is not satisfactory. There are numerous others that that have stated they have experienced the same problem with the Gates lower hose on the C5 corvette irrespective of where they are sourced. One would expect Gates would address this issue. Hopefully those who see this buying Gates hoses will elect to find an alternative for the lower hose... before the old one is removed..
Get what you can from Rockauto avoiding the obvious Gates lower hose that doesn't fit. Drive it for another 25 years. This rubber stuff doesn't last forever...
