Default Stupid exhaust question

Get the eye rolling out of the way.

I am looking to order a Borla S-Type cat back 140038. I’m just confused by the cat back and axle back names being used by the manufacturers. A true cat back would replace the H pipe as it’s after the cat. So my question is… is the Borla a cat back or really a misnamed axle back and I should Oder an X pipe as well?

I have this same exhaust, you will need to order the x-pipe separate. It's a great sounding exhaust but you will have a bit of drone, but I have heard the x-pipe helps with that. I haven't had a chance to do mine just yet

EDIT: I forgot to mention, if you are putting them on and/or have access to a welder, weld the joints instead of using the supplied clamps to help reduce those notorious crooked tips

There are no stupid questions when regarding the buying or owning of a Corvette. One's gotta know!

i just moved into a condo on the beach so I no longer have a garage. I’ll be paying a shop to install it so I will let them know to weld it.

The X-pipe will be an improvement over the stock H-pipe. However, be aware that if you ever decide to add long tube headers, you'll likely need to replace the Borla x-pipe with one that matches your headers. I would be worried about the drone with this setup. Borla ATAK with full mufflers might be a better option.

Or the Borla S type II if you want it a little quieter.
Both of these newer models ( ATAK and S type II) have zero drone also.
I have the ATAK and it’s perfect for my liking.

That Exhaust is a flange back system. Mounts from the flange back, it will work with the stock exhaust. I installed it on my Z06 that has American Racing headers and high flow cats with a X pipe and droned terrible. I literally took it back off the same day and put my titanium system back on.
