Default Speed Engineering Headers and Cats..

Hi gang, I'm looking into putting Speed Engineering long tube headers and x pipe on my car. Since they don't come with catalytic converters, I was wondering if anyone has ever added cats to their setup. Would love to see some pics if someone has done that. Or if someone can give me the measurement in the picture I posted, that would be great also. I found several catalytic converter options that should fit, but just want to be sure there is enough room.

Thank you!

I don't normally pimp out my youtube junk but if you're bored check out how I did it. I used cheap flowmaster spun cats. So far they've held up even with a blower.

The lack of cats is the only reason that I don't already have a set of speed engineering headers. I don't know how to weld, so I don't want to deal with the custom fab work it would take to add them. As such, I'm thinking that I'll eventually go with a set of TPS motorsports headers. Good luck with your setup though. I would be interested to see how they turn out.

I'm getting my car inspected in April and I'll find out for sure what I can do with the exhaust. In PA you don't need emissions if you put less than 5000 miles a year on that vehicle, but I don't want to limit my mileage.

Get a Classic registration, then you’re exempt from the visual inspection. The >5000 miles does not exempt you from a visual or from requiring cats. Classic tag also means no more annual registration fee, one time fee and done.

The less than 5000 miles does exempt you from having cats and emissions on a car. I had a1990 5.0l Mustang that had long tube headers, no cats and all the EGR stuff was removed and had no issues getting it inspected for 10 years.

In PA the safety inspection still requires a visual inspection to make sure emissions equipment is still there, including the cats. Your shop just didn't care to check. Go take a look at the PA official safety inspection code/checklist, it's online.

Well, funny to know that because I had my Mustang inspected at several different garages over that time period and never had an issue. I'm just going to check with my mechanic.

(d) Visual inspection of emission control system. Vehicles registered in counties where there is not an emission inspection program under Chapter 177 (relating to emission inspection program), shall be checked visually for the presence of emission control components.

This part only applies to counties that do not have emissions inspection. So the 5,000 mile or less rule allows you to remove all emissions in counties that do have emissions inspection and still get an exemption. If you go to this website...

https://www.ahs.dep.pa.gov/aq_apps/emissions/

you can put in your information and see what is required. When I put in mine, I only need the OBD check and the gas cap test.

Great video Mr. Black I might be taking on a roller project and using the LS6 pulled from the race build on my other C5 Z06 and a complete exhaust is one of the things I need to sorce.
