My biggest gripe is shipping cost are now outrageous. I don't get it at all. Last year I purchased a usb cord for 99 cents with free shipping from a China seller. I don't know the exact breakdown but let's say the item was 50 cents and shipping was 49 cents. Yes, 49 cent shipping. That item had to go from the manufacture to a warehouse. Then from the warehouse to the shipping docks in China. From there onto a boat and all the way to the west coast of America. From there I imagine it went to the Post Office on the west coast. From there all the way to the Post Office in little city of Anamosa Iowa. From there to my house in the country. All that distance and all those carriers for 49 cents. Now if I ship that same usb cord to my hometown of Bellevue, approximately 55 miles away, it will cost me about $5 to ship. WTF? Someone please explain that
It's obvious they were selling it for a loss. Maybe they just wanted you information to sell.

The explanation is that China games the system: they get a sweetheart deal from the USPS which is a net cost to the USPS and US taxpayers. https://www.wsj.com/articles/this-su...ost-1517963275 (non-paywall version: https://archive.vn/H2XC8).

not understanding the parting out for a living comment. if there is any shipping costs... that is paid for by the buyer so that should not hurt his business of parting out, and if he is running a business he was already collecting sales tax , so exactly when you say " that is kicking him in the butt" what is doing the kicking.???

I think you kind of answered your own statements and questions.

If I see a part that I need and I think the shipping is high I will just not buy the part. In other words it's a tipping point. Before I may have bought it and now I can do without so I'm not buying it.

Same with paying tax to and outside the state store or shop. The incentive to buy that way has been reduced.

I used to loath Amazon but now that these tax infringements have happened out of state sales I've all but stopped buying out of state and ebay and just about buy everything from bozos just out of laziness.

I will stay under 600 from here on out or until fleabay collapses on itself which IMO they kind of disearve.

ok -- the present way has changed your method of purchases. I would say it has not changed my on line buying habits at all. some of the stuff I need here in good ole Washington state - is not found in stores and if it is carried by Brick mortar store around here it is usually not in stock but you dont know until you get there. Lots of golf equipment I need is not in stores or is elevated in price compared to on-line stores. Still have to pay the 10% sales tax no matter where you get it. Many of the online stores have free shipping. lots of snowboard equipment is easier to find online. Car parts are usually competitively priced plus I can get all this stuff I need and not pay for gas to go 10-20 miles to find it. Home Depot is about the only store I use these days - all others could close I would not know or care.

After 20+ years of using fleabay, and 100% selling record, and after providing a color copy of my DL, SS#, and a copy of my bank statement, they closed my account.
They said to "protect other customers", but would not say why, because people might then try to circumvent the system if they know the rules. WTH! (I see, make rules, but don't let anyone know what they are, then ban people when they break them.) I hardly sold or purchased anything, but that is ridiculous, and would not give a reason, because there was not a legitimate one, probably some algorithm. Can't even purchase anything, that makes a lot of sense. I hope they go under.
I think Brandon is also writing fleabay policy!

US companies like Amazon are fronts for China and the stuff is shipped directly to the buyer. I bought stuff from Amazon with free shipping from China. The part cost 99 cents and it's cost to produce was way more than 99 cents, so how are the Chinese making money?

Ebay also spies on your messages. After the great tax everybody debacle I went through a phase where I would ask people to sell me an item privately which I did successfully several times. These were expensive items where the tax was more than a couple bucks.

Shortly after that I got an email from them saying I was breaking ebay policy and if I did it again they would close my account. Douches.
