Starting in 2022, you'll receive a 1099-K once you've sold $600 on EBay, thanks to a provision in the recently enacted American Rescue Plan Act. So in 2023, you'll have to account for your eBay sales on your federal income tax once they exceed $600. Say Thank You
Keep your receipts when you purchased the item and deduct it from your income. If the product needed replacement parts that may also be applied to the product cost, but I would always check with my CPA before I did that.
ebay changed a lot of policies in the last year, I canceled my account, Can't recevive money directly anymore, have to give them your bank info. Much easier to use the free sites as a individual. Ebay has gone for the small business accounts.

Kinda like shutting the gate after the horse got out!
I have years of old car parts with no receipt. Been selling on e bay for a while but looks like that ship has sailed.
Another thing this does not work for is anything that you inherited and want to sell off, sorry, no receipt. Reminds me of the old Chinese saying, no tickee, no laundry.
******* JO has bent us over again.

That's really unfortunate- even more government overreach and intrusiveness.
That's still not going to stop me from selling on ebay because it really is the best place to sell certain types of items. For example, I just sold a vintage Pepsi sign for $250, a vintage equalizer for $1200, a Tiffany's gift card for 90% of face value, and many, many car parts at top dollar.
There is no better place to sell things for top dollar because it's the most efficient way for sellers to connect with would-be buyers seeking very specific items.
I also use craigslist to sell larger items that are infeasible to ship.
The way I understand it this really only affects people that sell for profit. AKA business vendors.
Everything I sell on ebay is for a loss. Because it's used crap.
My beef isn't with ebays currently policies even though they do kind of suck. My beef with ebay has to do with them caving to my communist state so that now I have to pay sales tax on everything on ebay to include used stuff that has already been taxed once. That's bullshit.
I wonder how the Ebay 1099 thingy works if they dont have any Personal Tax ID info on the seller. For example the SS number .. they dont have mine but have sold stuff there.

Ebay is not at fault on Sales tax -- it is a Fed thing. all sales on line are supposed to be sales taxed at the buyers home state rate.. then they are supposed to send those $$ to you state.
Yep, Ebay is just doing what the gov is requiring them to. It sucks, but the it's a direct result of the 80 some million idiots (dead or alive) that voted for Brandon.

I'm not talking about federal. This was a Washington State thing. It applies to anything not just Ebay. Ebay was just a part of it.
I agree with everyone. All the eBay changes suck I used to sell a lot on eBay, those days are gone.
My biggest gripe is shipping cost are now outrageous. I don't get it at all. Last year I purchased a usb cord for 99 cents with free shipping from a China seller. I don't know the exact breakdown but let's say the item was 50 cents and shipping was 49 cents. Yes, 49 cent shipping. That item had to go from the manufacture to a warehouse. Then from the warehouse to the shipping docks in China. From there onto a boat and all the way to the west coast of America. From there I imagine it went to the Post Office on the west coast. From there all the way to the Post Office in little city of Anamosa Iowa. From there to my house in the country. All that distance and all those carriers for 49 cents. Now if I ship that same usb cord to my hometown of Bellevue, approximately 55 miles away, it will cost me about $5 to ship. WTF? Someone please explain that
I meant by saying it was a FEd thing that the Federal Govt is the one who mandated collecting the sales tax was ok for WA state and 44 other states.. it is not just Ebay or Wa State.. all the states were/are affected by this. except the ones who dont have sales tax.

If you can't prove your selling it for a loss, you'll have to bend over for full boat.

They will lock your account and hold your money, until you give it to them, at least that is what they did to me.
