Does anyone know where to get the correct 97-00 key fob for a 99 or have a used one for sale in good condition? Are they all reprogramable "thru fob training" so this allows to unlock hatch, doors and alarm. Autozone has their own brand of key fobs but for the 99 it takes the genuine ac delco key fob which is 85$ from autozone as well. How do you go about programming them new or used and to the car?
Rock Auto has the '97-'00 upgraded GM fob for about $86, the upgraded fob doesn't have the passive function or switch. If you want the passive function the only way for that is to buy used and they go for $100-$300 on ebay,; GM doesn't make the original early C5 fobs any longer, only the upgraded design.

Whats passive function or switch? Everytime i disconnect the battery and reconnect it the alarm horn honks or sometimes keeps honking until i put a key in the ignition. With vats disabled will this disable alarm function? Curious as if i get key fob for door unlock lock and trunk hatch if it has alarm button. I did tire training and appears battery dead so rockauto for some schrader tpm and the key fob. Most used ones are in rough condition and its hard to replace the battery without cracking it. No telling if the new one has a shelf life battery that goes bad.
So what is the passive function?
I looked it up so it wont have the alarm feature the ac delco 97-00 85$ key fobs they sell on amazon, autozone or thru a gm parts dealer. Passive feature is alarm when door or hatch is opened without a key. Now is that even with the door unlocked the alarm will sound if you have the passive feature on thru the dic?

The passive function will unlock the doors as you approach the car without taking the fob out of your pocket or pushing any fob buttons, when leaving the car the doors will lock the same way. You can tell if the fob has the passive function if there is a small horizontal slide switch below the main buttons, this switch turns the passive function on or off. Owners complained they didn't like the passive because it could lock and unlock the doors randomly as in walking between the car and nearby fob so GM eliminated it in later C5 models and fobs. Owners either like it or hate it.
I ended up buying the upgraded non passive early GM key fob off of Amazon a couple years back.
While I will say it does work I will also say that if you are being chased by a bad guy it may be untrustworthy to work the first time you get to your car door. You may wind up dead or in a gun fight lol.
My original passive switch key fob was even more unreliable.
