Default wheel paint

Whats the best wheel paint and is clear coat necessary and do they have a gloss black most i see are satin black. Has anyone tried copper wheel paint? I had lost a wheel center cap and am going to either have to paint it black or repaint the wheels. Do these look more of a gloss black or satin, matte and is it easy to tell what brand wheel paint was used? Someone had told me to paint the center hubs and lugs nuts as well.

For your lug nuts, there is an OEM cover that screws onto the lug nut and offers a much better visual picture. Or get either chrome or black aftermarket lug nuts - McGard makes a good set.

Those wheels do not look like a gloss black. Something to consider is find a good powdercoater and talk to them about a color you really want on the wheels - it will last longer than paint.

Somone told me it was 375$ to have wheels powdercoated. Im not too opposed to the vht duplicolor wheel paint if it doesn't leave any flat black gloos black spot variations. No one would happen to have a set of copper wheel or copper painted?

If you insist on paint over powdercoat which I understand not wanting to spend that much money, I strongly recommend you get the Eastwood paint that is 2 part in an aerosol can. It has a plunger in the bottom of the the can that releases it's catalyst into the paint. It is very durable. They also have 2 part clears in an aerosol can as well.

Oh yeah it will absolutely work. Just not as durable up front or in the long term.

I think it all just depends on conditions really. If this is a daily driver and you constantly scrub on the wheels or use wheel cleaners than the parts store paints aren't going to last long IMO.

If this is a garage car that sees a couple thousand miles a year then honestly plain ole Rustoleum will work just fine.

Its a daily driver it has its imperfections up close. Im not sure what he used to paint the wheels before looks like he missed some silver on the edge so it could use a repaint it that matte black or satin black i definetly dont want a primer type of black color. Wheels that are already painted dont need primer correct just a light sand and repaint? I do use regular spray wheel cleaner and tire shine it cleans the paint up real good, cleans brake dust and adds a light gloss 2 times a year when i wax the vehicle.

I used Super Wrap on mine and it looks amazing and is very durable. Easy to apply too. Check it out at

If the paint is stuck I wouldn't worry about a primer.

IF you go black again I would only use Semi Gloss. Full Gloss is a pain in the *** both to apply evenly and it will not stay full gloss for long. Wear and tear will flatten it.

Flat and satin just look dirty right out of the gate.
