Default Lifting Options

Good Day to all...I have been searching here and the web for vehicle lifts. Currently I have a 4 post system that I have had for over 12 years but I use it constantly so I was thinking of buying another lift. I haven't decided yet which way to go and I have read many comments about Quickjack. Not too many comments about Kwik Lift though and that may be because currently they are out of stock. I am for sure looking for a drive on low rise type such as KL but I haven't come across another brand which is why I am asking for some suggestions here. Thanks in advance. Cheers!!!

I've had a Kwik Lift for a few years now and I am happy with it. I got mine used from a fellow forum member in the C5 sale threads that was about 150 miles away.
I've done several axle back exhaust changes, a tunnel plate change, brake work, oil changes, etc. I also like it for detailing. After I get the top side done using a step stool, I can sit on my mechanic stool and do the rest, which my back really likes.
I mostly like it because it was economical and I feel 100% safe when I am under it.
I also have 2 jackstand trays so I can lift the car while it is on the lift for removing the wheels.
I use the 2 tiny metal approach ramps that came with it as stops to let me know when to stop when pulling up on it.

The only cons I can think of is;
It takes 2 people to move/set it up (maybe an age/back issue) because it is pretty heavy. You'll need to get it set just right, depending on your garage space. Mine is very tight and had to be set just right.
I needed 2 2"x12"s, 24" in length because of my ACI splittter to clear the approach angle. (Note, I have to have the expandable ramps fully contracted to fit in my garage and close the door, so I am approaching at maximum angle, which I believe is ~6 degrees)
You have to have a floor jack and manually jack it up. Not a big deal.
Best to use rear wheel chocks when parked on it for safety sake. Every once in a while I forget to remove them before driving and have to get back out. I always shut the car off, set the e-brake, and leave it in gear when it is sitting on there.
I can't do oil changes on my 4x4 pickup on it due to ceiling height in my basement garage.

The upsides:
Very economical, especially if you can find a used one close enough to pick it up yourself.
You never have to worry about hydraulic lines leaking.
It is solid. Zero worries about safety when underneath the car.
Engineered to pretty much fit in any garage (length and height) when fully contracted.
Will last forever with zero maintenance.

OP I don't know if you know this, but if you don't, they make these things called jack trays for 4 post lifts that enable you to jack up a car on a 4 post lift safely for doing wheels off work.

Could really increase the versatility of your current lift.

Good Day Gentlemen,

Thank you Larry and Steve for the information. I also have this pneumatic jack stand with and integrated bottle jack that I use on my 4 post so I can lift the wheel to clean and pull off etc. I think that was what you were suggesting Steve so yes I do know that I just use a different setup. I got them at the same time I bought the 4 poster. I bought the combo jack from HF for about $40 if memory serves me correct. Good to know Larry that you have had good use for it as I would be using it for the same type of regular maintenance. Thanks again and Cheers!!!

QuickJack user here. It works but its not "quick" to setup. It's really best for guys like me who can't dedicate floor space to a lift and only uses it every once in a while. (excellent value vs function though)

I agree on all aspects.

I've found for my personal self that the only way I can and will use Quickjacks on a regular basis is basically I keep them set up all the time and laying on the floor. When not in use one is shoved up against a garage wall and then the other is underneath my C5 in the middle and the pump is hooked up and ready to go at anytime.

Honestly if I had to pick those things up and put them away every single time I'd likely never use them.

one downside to kiwk-lift -- this is from their web site:

We have currently halted Kwik-Lift production as of 2/3/2022 due to rising steel prices. All Kwik-Lifts are out of stock until further notice. You may still purchase in-stock accessories. We appreciate your understanding

I do put them up every time because I simply don't have the room. Here is what I do
(the hoses I now store unrolled because when cold they are hard to control / unroll)

Just saw the same notice on the Kwik Lift website... no telling what these will cost when they come back!

I still have a new one (with custom storage racks) for sale if anyone in Texas has a way to pick it up!
