I have a stock c5 shifter right now and I was looking at mgw or a c6 z06 shifter.
For either of these options can you control the height of the shifter to make it shorter? I want to be able to rest my arm on the center console and not have to reach up as much...I always hated how high the c5 shifter is. Open to any other options too
most of the aftermarket are a bit shorter than stock.
I've had a few and actually my favorite is a shortened stock shifter. It can be cut down & re-threaded pretty easy. there's a DIY on here somewhere
I have an MGW shifter and the threaded rod can be adjusted to effect the overall height. Not sure what the min/max is but I find it very comfortable, also the **** itself will effect the height.
Although I've been running a Hurst for the last decade I second the shortening of the stock shifter as good start. You will be able to get rid of the dopey stock "goose head" shifter **** and replace with a nice round ball. That's the ticket.
I just installed the MGW and have it set at the height you are talking about. And there is room from where I am to go higher or lower still. Very happy with the shifter overall. I kept the OEM **** for a stock look.
Love my MGW shifter. I bet you would be happy with one too. It is the perfect height for me, and the height right out of the box seems to be about what you describe you are looking for.
I also cut my stock shifter down with a hacksaw and installed a Hurst shift ****. Only "unusual" tool needed is the 9/16" x 18tpi die (cheap from Amazon) to extend the thread down to the insulator, which means there is no visible shift lever at all. **** is locked in place with plumber's Teflon tape. Been on there for years now with no issues.
Apart from shortening the shift lever, I also had really wanted to get rid of the stock shift **** as to me it always looked like it belonged on a truck. Or a bus.
