Hey 👋 C5 bros , mine is C5 2004 and the hood is just starting to feel a little unstable (if you shake the car while it is up it will fall), that was my first warning ⚠️, so it came down on a guys shoulder today , glad he didn’t get hurt!. I been afraid to stick my hands in to replace air cleaner or head In. Don’t want any amputation. So time to replace the lifters. Can you give me a few pointers. Is it an easy DYI job? Where should I buy them? Amazon ?
struts need to be changed, simple, my self, i wouldn t buy from amazon, don t know what you get..
check Rock Auto.. genuine GM parts at a fraction of GM pricing
Super easy and super quick job.
Just make sure you have a helper to hold the hood up.
All you need is a small flat bladed screwdriver to lift or slide the retaining clip.
I recommend sliding it, so it doesn't pop completely off and go airborne.
You don't even have to move the clip on the new one aside, just push it on both pins.
As others have said, this is very quick and easy. I got mine from Zip. All you need is a small flathead screw driver. The job takes 10 minutes tops. However, I do recommend having a second person to help with this one. That way, they can hold the hood while you swap the struts.
No helper needed. Use a piece of wooden dowel, broom stick, in my case my wife's wooden "Beach" wall plaque for the beach house. Prop the hood up with the wood on the ribs in the plennum and it's a 1 person 3 minute job.
It's also not something I'd buy even with next day shipping Amazon.
There are probably enough AutoZone/pep Boys/ advance auto/napa/O'Reilly's etc stores within a 10 minute drive of most people's houses that you can go and grab a pair and pop them on in a span of 30 minutes or less.
