Just purchased a 2000 C5 Base Convertible. Wanting to change mufflers to give me something just a little louder with a more "throaty" sound. Of course without breaking the bank. Any suggestions are welcome.
Corsa Sport or C5 Z06 exhaust. Yes there seem to always be some used Z06 exhausts for sale on the forum. But most of the sellers want local pick up only and don’t want to ship. Understandable because it is probably difficult to package for shipment in the state it was removed from the car and most likely expensive to ship.

What’s breaking the bank to you?
The USA good brands are probably going to be at least $1000.00 new unless you can find a sale.
Bought my Borla Stingers aka S type with 4 tips from a vendor here at CF on Black Friday sale for $881.00 shipped to my door, I think it was 10% discount, November 2020, as you know everything has gone way up with all this hyper inflation.
You don't want cheap, cheap will drone. Some noted brands are also prone to drone, so search for reviews of any system you contemplate. I have Corsa with TigerShark tips, and recommend the system highly. That said, it's not inexpensive new. I seriously suggest checking the for sale threads and local sources, such as facebook marketplace, ebay, and craig's list for used systems. Also many have done a bypass mod to increase the volume a moderate amount at very low cost and I seem to recall it's reported to have little increase in drone.
I agree that your best options will either be to do the exhaust bypass mod, or go with the Ti system from the Z06. Any of the other good options will be expensive. If you are willing to spend, both Borla and Corsa make some good options that have a good sound, but don't drone.
Several choices out there and the internet is REPLETE with video of many configurations. Your local Vette club would be an excellent place to hear 'em in person. Take your time to decide and have fun on the hunt
Flowmaster makes mufflers that you can weld in, or a complete cat back. I’ve had them in two C5s and love the mellow tone putting around, and they have a solid American car roar when you drop the hammer. Less expensive than the same old C5 brands and sounds like a true muscle car.
I had a set of the mufflers spliced in for about $550 parts and labor. The guys at the performance exhaust shop were doubters, but after driving my car they loved them.
are the "S-Type" mufflers a different design from the older "Stinger" mufflers?
i had stingers and they were officially
S-Type II are the "new" mufflers from Borla and come in Touring/S-Type II and Atak styles. They are a "full size" version and not the glasspack/can style the Stingers were...which are no called S-Type Classic I think.
You don't know the meaning of the word drone until you've heard exhaust cutouts.
My car came with QTP remotely operated exhaust cutouts mounted just downstream of the factory h pipe cross-over.
When they were open, the entire cabin of the car's interior would get a massive pressure change, I could feel inside my ears.. It sounded nasty. (in a bad way)
I later got Borla S-type stingers (part #140017) with the Borla x-pipe and I'm quite pleased with the sound. Nice deep muscle car tone. Not too loud at idle but comes alive at higher rpm. I haven't experienced anything like the previous cutout droning with the Borla exhaust.
FWIW Borla actually advertises them as "no drone".
