Was at the gym and a C8 pulled into the parking lot. Figured I'd pull around by him and take a pic. He fired the car up while I was next to it. I thought it was a truck parked nearby. Lol.
We talked for a long time. He really likes the car. I'm not a fan as you can't get a manual. It's still a nice car, don't get me wrong. Just not for me. He left and I caught him at the light. He rolled out before I could get right next to him. So, we went from a roll. I was very surprised he didn't just leave. The space between our cars didn't get bigger. I was expecting to get my *** whooped hard. He may have gotten me from a dig, but it was more or less a dead heat from 40 to 90. I was steppin and fetchin with the manual which I love.
If the C8 is new, they have break in milage requirements to meet before they get full power. The C8's have 0 to 60 times in under 3 seconds. He was playing with you. If you ride in a C8 you may think again on liking them
I'm of a similar mind about the C8 -- Really awesome machine, lots of top notch engineering for the price, but without a true manual and an F/R layout it just isn't something I'd want. I hope Corvette doesn't ditch the F/R forever. Time will tell.
They're not as fast as I thought they would be. May as well be a Ford Tempo with no manual. The owner was talking about how it has paddles and all. I get that. My last DD was a CTS-V 4 door. Automatic. I'd still have it if it were a manual. Glad I don't as it got 10 mpg city.
There is a certain visceral connection to the car one gets when driving a manual vs an auto.

C5 0 to 60 times 4.7 Quarter mile time 13.2
C8 0 to 60 times 2.9 Quarter mile time 11.0
I'm not saying I could win in a race. I was saying that he didn't just leave (which I fully expected). His exhaust was puking out enough smoke to let me know he was on it. The C8 was LOUD! No tirespin. That leads me to believe he had the nannies on which could have affected things.
Hey guys, just to let you know I'm not some newbie to the car world. I could have a C8 if I wanted one. I owned a Speed Shop with a Mustang Dyno in the 00s. I sold it to the guy who ran it for me while I was at my day job. It's still in business and is known as a good place to get high perf work done. 1320hp.com is their website.
I've had full on race cars and more cool stuff than I can list. From Typhoons to Cadillac droptops. You name it, I've probably owned one.
Efficiency be damned. They should have put a manual in the C8. Same goes for the Shelby. Although that IS a manual transmission being shifted by the computer. Twin disc clutch IIRC. They're fast too. Just boring as hell.
I love the fact the C5 has no nannies except for the TC. With my CTS-V I had to go through a litany of switches and waiting to get to competition mode. I don't like that and that car ran low 11s all day long. Yes, it was modded by my old shop.
I know what's fast and what isn't. My C5 is NOT fast. But it is a fun driver. I also know when someone is ON their car. The C8 driver was ON it.
That level of acceleration does not make me pull out the needed 100k. To each his own. That being said it was nice that the guy actually ran his car hard. Most of these newer Corvette owners putt their car around like it's some kind Queen. LMAO!
Please fellas, drive your stuff! It's fun!

Ok I own a C5 and though I do not like the look of the mid engine exotic supercar C8 it would blow me away in a drag or race track stock to stock everyday and any day.
The C8s are having major quality/reliability issues with just about everything. Take a look at the C8 General Forum "issues" section. It's really sad that the owners have to be the prototype testers.
I plan to get a C8 HTC, (on a waitlist) but not for any kind of competition. I want a grand touring car for travel and just pleasure driving, and I personally love the C8 looks wise as well.
I will be keeping my C5Z because it is a totally different car, and I will continue to enjoy it for it’s attributes as well.
Love my C5, but after taking a C8 in hot laps at the corvette museum track, the C8 moved out much faster that the c5z cars. Of course, it also comes down to driver as well. Still love the C5 and would only go to a C6 wide body if I were to move.
