Default Window Tint

Looking for opinions. .. Taking my 2002 Black Z06 for window tinting tomorrow. I've heard going to dark on side windows takes away from profile of cars shape. I kind of like the darker tint. Any thoughts? Thanks

IMO anything lighter than 20% is useless.

Wouldn't go any lighter than 20%. Would honestly rather go a little darker.

I like the darker shade, but here in Las Vegas, You can/will get pulled over if the tint is too dark...there is a local ordinance that limits how dark you can go.

I never had a problem in Vegas with 5% tint

One comment I'll make - on my FRC the rear glass has the "tiny bubbles" near the roofline - the tint won't adhere to this area very well. When mine was done they used "black vinyl tape" along the top then blended it in with the tint lower down - it looks much nicer - and that area of the rear glass is barely visible from inside....

I'd suggest tinting the windshield as well - something like Llumar Air80, which is a nearly-clear ceramic film.

That would make sense. Any way they can get your money. You gamble at the slots and tables, you gamble with your tint, all the more in their coffers. Used to be awesome in Vegas. I wouldn't go there now if I won a free trip. I'd sell the tickets, then go to Jamaica!!

The % number represents how much light the tint allows through. So a 5% tint means it only allows 5% of light to pass through the film.

I had the same issue with a C6. I haven’t tinted my C5 Z06 yet. Kinda like it not tinted.

Yes, Llumar Air80 has been on my Z06's windshield for almost 2 years now.

After doing a ton of research on this subject myself (black car also), I decided 25-30% is exactly what I wanted. Right in between too dark and too light, it would have been perfect...the shop I decided on (after a lot of research as well) only had 20% or 35%....instead of going with my gut and finding a place that had 25-30%, I went with 20%. All in all, it looks good, but it's just a tad darker than I ultimately wanted. Wish I would have held out for 25-30. That's my experience FWIW

I put it on all my cars as the difference of how much heat comes in is staggering
I could feel the heat on my hands bad in my Cadillac ATS and after the film nothing

Just curious if you, or anyone else, has experienced any trouble with your solar sensitive "dome" on top of the dash? I have not, but also wish my tint was a bit darker. It was done in 2006 (!), and the company that did it did a great job, and it still looks good, no bubbles, etc. It would seem like a really dark tint would trick the sensor into thinking it was dark out at 2PM?

Most, if not all municipalities have laws regarding how dark the tint can be. Some bar the driver's window from being tinted at all for the safety of police officers. I've issued tickets to drivers where you can't even see thru the driver's window because it was so dark. Very unsafe...
