It was once said that there is "no dumb question".......... I'm going to rely on that. My question is.... I have a 2004 Corvette Hatchback and have an intermittent courtesy light problem. Sometimes they work, and then............. I have no idea where the switch is. It's usually in the door jamb, but if it is, I can't find it. I believe there is also a relay involved, so that might be an issue also. Anyone with any specific info, I would certainly appreciate your input. As problems go....... this would be considered fairly minor........ but........... it's driving me crazy and I don't have far to go. Thanks
The actual switch is in the Latch Assbly and wired to the Door Module. The Door Module communicates to the
BCM thru the Data Link and controls the Courtesy Lights by energizing the CTSY LP Relay 42 in I/P Fuse Block.
Here is a drawing of the Door Assbly, but not very good.
Switch is #21
Hi. Seriously thanks! Today the courtesy lights in my C5 vert ( footwell - trunk in my convertible - interior mirror map lights ) are not working by either door or trunk lid opening. I am able to turn the courtesy lights on manually with the dashboard dimmer switch. Ive been CF reading since 10 this morn, I’ve called Lyle at C&S Corvette in Sarasota, he recommended fuse 29 in the footwell fuse box and if it’s not that have it diagnosed. After having the door apart a few months and adjusting the window until I stopped the leaky driver’s window leak? I have to say! Man that’s the Awesomest exploded view answer a C5 owner could ask for! Can you please tell me were you able to determine if the courtesy light problem was the door latch switch? Was the door latch switch bad in both doors? We’re you able to buy a new one? Where? If you can think of anything thing else I’d appreciate it. Seriously! A thousand thanks for today! First rounds on me!

Hi. That’s the right name Instructor. My courtesy lights stopped working today in my 02 C5 vert. I have to say that’s the Awesomest exploded view answer a C5 owner could ask for. Thanks. Will wait for an answer from Doug. Hopefully that switch was the problem. A thousand thanks.
Hey folks, sorry for the delayed response......... I concur with KM60........ that is one awesome exploded view. After messing with it for a while I've determined that it's the latch itself in the door. If you stick your finger in it and just touch it....... voila....... the lights come on. I'm hoping I can get it with lubrication......... we'll see. I dread pulling the panel and possibly snapping off fasteners. But........ one has to do , what one has to do. Hopefully it will have a happy ending. Thanks for the responses guys.
Hi Doug, if that’s your delayed response your dependable as sunrise. Before I put the car away today I wd40`d both door latches and the trunk latch. I just went out for a ride & all courtesy lights are working now. I’m driving cross country this week so I’ll know if I should tackle replacing the actuator latch switches in both doors by the time I return. The OEMs are still available on the GM parts sites for about 80$ each. If I buy used I’ll buy from where I’ve had a lot of work done also my go to parts place C&S Corvette in Sarasota FL. (Check ‘em out on UTube lotta DIY videos) and I’ll buy the door latch & switch assembly. Thanks for the response.
The factory grease on the latches (and switches) get hard and tacky over the years. Your spraying them with WD40
can soften it up and last several more years with no problems.
