First time Corvette owner and undoubtedly need to buy a set of pucks.
I gotta admit with a price range from 15 to 120 bucks has me perplexed. Is a set for 120 really that much better? Now I understand a machined aluminum set would be worth more because of material cost. Are permanently attached worth it? I found a set of hockey pucks for 10 bucks that would do the trick just like a small block of wood. Is it just the Corvette premium pricing?
Understood that a lot is personal preference, Just interested to hear some different perspectives.
To me, the 15 buck version seems good enough.
I bought the red ones because they are very easy to see. A small dot of blue loctite on the bolt threads and I keep the Allen wrench in the ashtray. You will need to remove them if you require a tow truck.
Thanks for the input. Those definitely look like a happy medium. Seems convenient to always have them on. Not sure if I would be in the mood to remove them when waiting for a tow. The Pros and cons of something this simple lol.
Don't overthink it. I use these $32 snap in/stay in place pucks which install in about 5 minutes. Install them, forget about them, and if need be you can remove them.
* A word of caution to owners of lowered C5's. It's going to be hard to jack/lift car on two post lift after installing pucks. Car is now too low for the arms to get under the car without jacking up the rear end subframe raising the car so think about that
That is a good point about the 2 post lift. I had to drive my vette up on some boards to get the lift arms under it without pucks.
I was just thinking about the comment about the attached pucks need to removed to tow(rollback/flatbed). Is that so you can use j-hooks in the openings to strap it down? I put mine on a rollback(still needed a lot of lumber because it’s so low) and used 8 point straps. Those straps stayed away from the body and better because of unsprung weight. Now that I don’t have a rollback anymore and gotta trailer the vette, I’ll probably use j-hooks in those openings. Sorry went off on a slight tangent.
My motivation for purchasing the ones from ZL1 Addons was previous experience with their products. I bought their lift pads, tow hooks, and a few other items for my 5th Gen Camaro. Nice, quality pieces so it was an easy decision to purchase my Vette pucks from them. The link you posted shows the removable type for $84, the bolt-on type I have are $70. 37 Bucks one-way or another ain't gonna break my budget. Maybe a few hundred or so and I might make a different choice.
Anyone buy these "genuine C5 Hockey Pucks".......I did. Had them for a while, had not had the opportunity to use them...but tested...yes they fit into the lift pocket, twist and they stay locked in.....
EDIT: I keep them in one of the trunk bins....I would never drive with these installed!
