Just wanted some opinions on this...figured I would ask here. I got my new to me base C5 back in march. Gorgeous car, which I have put
a little money into. I have the chance to upgrade to a 3LT '06 C6 for $8000 out of pocket. I am really torn, since i hate to lose
a few bucks, but the upgrade is rather big, to me. manual instead of auto, better interior, better motor, pretty much better everything.
the 2006 has about 4000 less miles on it than my 2004 does. Dealer is offering me a really fair trade # for mine.
How much do you want a stick shift? Seems that is the real issue. If both were autos, I would hold my C5 no doubt.
1. You know the mechanics on your C5 since you have tested it for months. The C6 is unknown.
2. I am a flip up headlight guy. C3, 4, and 5 for me only. I like the flips so much that if I wanted a manual, I would just take the $8K, sell my C5 and find me an early C5 Z06 or FRC and rock on.
3. If a Stealership is offering you any “deal” Run Forest Run!!
Just go test drive it and see what you think. While the LS2 will suffice, I'd hold out for a LS3, if anything it will do a better job at retaining any value in the future incase you sell for any reason.

I would consider it just for the sake of going from a 4 speed auto to a 6 speed manual, but to be honest I would probably look for a 6 speed C5 and save money at the same time.

Purely speculative since I don't own a C5 or C6...But, judging by what I'm seeing in the market (I buy/sell as a hobby and know salesmen)...that 8,000 deal will be 6,000 if you can hold on a few months. Granted, they may offer you lower on the trade by then...making it a wash...but the market is in the early phases of correcting. The pandemic crazy supply crunch of used vehicles is over. Rates are up...gas creeping down slightly...but inflation still wild.
TLDR...if you are head over heels for the trade...and got the doe...cash...do it. Personally, I'd hold onto what I got and watch prices fall. You may see something that you REALLY REALLY wanted pop up as prices sink and reality re-enters the market.
I am going to with keep the C5 if you get the LS2 you will wish you had a LS3.
I was looking a adding things to get more horse power in my stock C5 after looking at the do it right price (10,000) I said no.
Mods to engine 5k, upgrade the Auto transmission and diff to take the extra power another 5k or just get a C6 with the LS3 when prices go back to normal if a few years.
Also I love the look of C5 with the curves, the hips and she can bat her eyes at me. (pop-up headlights rule)
So, as it turns out, the carfax revealed the car in question was in an accident with moderate damage to the whole right side. no airbags. So, hard pass for me. Honestly,
LS3/LS3, doesn't matter, more than enough power and I don't race or autocross. I shall stay with my C5 for at least another year and see where things are.
