Default C5 Dilemma :)

I guess I have a good problem to have. I now own two C5s (and a C3), a 2002 convertible M6 that I've had for a few years and I just picked up a 30K miles '02 Z06 (I posted a thread on my drive home with it). After picking up the Z06, I intended to sell the C5 'vert and the C3.

Today is the last day of Hot August Nights and as I live just an hour and half south of Reno, I figured I'd get the 'vert all cleaned up and prepped for sale then drive it up to Reno. Put the top down and took off with the car thinking it is going to feel a bit sluggish compared to driving the Z06. Turns out, that was not the case at all. It kind of surprised me that it still has very good performance for a car with 138K miles on it and not really much slower than the Z06. I spent a couple weeks and almost 2500 miles now in the Z06 and hadn't driven the 'vert for some time prior to my trip so had forgotten how it drives. So now I'm thinking maybe I should keep the 'vert?

The Z06 is like new and feels very tight like a new car would. The 'vert on the other hand, feels like a well worn in shoe. Comfortable and familiar. I did the anti-venom mod on the 'vert so the shifters is nice and smooth. I'll do that to the Z06 too now. I think that is the only mod I will do to that car. I would like to drive or at least shift a car with a MGW shifter to see if that is a mod worth doing.

So now I don't know what to do. I guess I'll hang on to the 'vert for a while longer and see. It is still blazing hot out but it will cool off in a month or so and then we'll have some great convertible weather. I'll wait and see if I drive the 'vert or Z06 more in the nicer weather then decide.

Not a bad problem to have though.

I don't see the problem . Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I wonder how the vert VS the Z06 would do against each other, the Z06 should win, but by how much, a couple of car lengths say on a 1/4 race track?

As a live long convertible person (even topless planes!), I have to say top down 60% of the year is what makes a Corvette and life what it is! Not so difficult a choice here not being a track person...but of course, your decision!

The "real world" performance differences (as perceived) between and '02 Z06 and your manual convertible, might not be as much as one might think. This site shows the spread between the fastest 2002 Corvette and the slowest Corvette is 7/10ths of a second. If you add the Z51 option to the convertible...the handling might be pretty close too.

https://zero60times.com/0-60-times/c...corvette/2002/

I own an '01 convertible, so I may be a bit biased, but I think you should keep your convertible. You'd miss it more than you might think. These cars have all been surpassed in performance by more recent generations- so they are best enjoyed for what they are. Sublime, practical driver's cars.

My stock internals, full bolt-ons, 2000 A4 vert, was giving the C5 Z06s a run for their $$, and even beat a couple, not to mention a 1995, 405hp C4 ZR1, who I raced, and beat, 3 times. My best run was 12.50@114.00mph.....

What all did you bolt on to keep up and beat Z06?

Best scenario, keep both C5s and enjoy them for what they are - great cars.

Bolt-ons were: LS6 intake, Granatelli MAF, stock H-pipe, gutted cats, Flowmaster mufflers, Blackwing air filter, 25% UD ASP balancer, 160° T-stat, and an LS1 edit tune. This list of parts were well over $1,500, so they SHOULD have made a difference!! Also, keep in mind one other important thing; it's not a huge thing by itself, but coupled with my other bolt-ons, did help a bit. That would be the 2000 MY only LS1 cam. It was the "hottest" OEM LS1 cam ever offered, with .500" lift, with a tighter LSA (115.5?). In more ways than anyone could ever imagine, I wish I would've stopped right there. When you have a car that runs mid 12s, and gets 25+mpg, not all is wrong!!
