Hello all! New to the forum and Vettes in general. My mom, at 81, had decided it is too difficult getting out of her car and sold it to me for the princely sum of $5! It being a 2000 A4 Coupe in Magnetic Red Metallic with 110,000 on the clock. Mom was the original owner, my dad was a GM Engineer who spent his last years before retiring in 2000 on the Corvette program, he bought it for her when they both retired, she worked at GM as well. The car is in Florida and has been since they moved there in 04, and has been meticulously maintained. I am moving there very soon, Sarasota area. I myself spent quite a few years as a chassis designer, my first gig being on the original Viper. Have been turning wrenches since a child and cannot leave well enough alone, every vehicle I have owned gets modded and messed with and this one will be no exception. I look very forward to picking the brains of the crowd here, I am active in a Jeep forum and know the wealth of information offered by other members is unmatched. Here is my new to me toy with mom at the wheel.
Her brother was the motorhead of the family, I inherited that. This is her fourth Vette, she previously owned a 74, 81, and a 95. I really cannot wait to get my hands on it, has a couple issues that need attention. Namely the dreaded ABS and Traction Control lights being lit... I am not sure the problem as I have not read the codes yet, but I am assuming it is the EBCM issue rearing its ugly head..
I should be moved to FL by end of October, as soon as I get settled I will get into it.
Thanks! I am under the impression a 2000 is pretty much unfixable, hopefully it's just a speed sensor setting off the lights but I don't get that lucky ever. I have also read quite carefully the sticky about converting to an 01+ system, that is what I probably will do.
Your mom is 1st. class. She knew it was meant to be kept in the family chain. That value alone is worth more than most folks can imagine and hopefully you will carry the tradition in the future. Hooray for your mom!
Thanks all! Yes, mom definitely wanted to keep it in the family and I was the easy choice, she knows I am the motorhead of the bunch. It has a couple issues to address, when I am done it will be better than new.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the car. That is a very cool story. I know that you'll love the car.
You are correct that the 2000 EBCM cannot be repaired, and new ones are no longer being made. However, the links that vette4fl posted would be to buy a used one from a salvage C5 that is still in working condition. They are NOT cheap. However, since you only paid $5 for the car, perhaps you can afford to replace the EBCM.
These are very fun cars as they come from the factory. However, there are LOTS of options if you want to start modding. If you want some suggestion, just let us know. We're always happy to help.
Don't forget to SAVE THE WAVE!!
WELCOME!!! Great looking car! If it is the ECBM that crapped out. There is a very detailed post on here that explains how to retrofit the newer style ECBM from a 2001-2004 model into the older ones.
