Default 98 convertible top question

Good afternoon, this my first post, I have a neighbor that has a piece of cloth that lays on top of rear deck under the top that when driving flaps around, from what I can see there are some straps that maybe stretched to help hold the cloth tight to rear deck, does anyone have a fix. Thanks Ed

Just remove it. Or a place that does alterations can sew new stretch cord.

No No!... Just leave it be... Well designed, It's purposeful for heaven's sake and the flapping around thing is cool and C5 unique. 😎

I believe it's to protect the rear window defogger from damage when the top is down and you have stuff in the trunk.....

To flap around and be annoying. I removed it from my '99 when I got it 12 years ago. Have never missed it - it's nice to see the waterfall all the time.

Guys, thanks for taking the time to answer my question, I am a believer of keeping the car original, my thoughts was maybe a safety pin or taking up some slack on straps and sewing.

I think I'm about to do the same too. Looks cheap and tacky when its flopping around back there.
