I did a search and couldn't find any definitive info on this. I'm looking to do a serious audio upgrade on my (stock audio) 99 convertible. 5.25's in the back aren't ideal at all. It looks like the factory speaker pods are held in by basically 2 rivets that I've highlighted in the pic below. Can anyone confirm that once I drill out those rivets the stock bracket will pull out? I'm a bit concerned there will also be some adhesive somewhere that will make removal more difficult (obviously not impossible) once I remove the rivets. I'd like to know what I'm up against before starting.
C5 rear speaker location was designed for a Coupe/FRC but not a convertible. If you drive a convertible as intended and drop it, the top blocks out most of the sound emanating from that area. Best use of the location would be 5-1/4”, 5-1/2” woofers. Albeit they still will be partially blocked the bass sound waves do better at being able to be heard then high and mid range sound
Driving even larger mid /high speakers in the rear side area is a waste of money and time in a convertible with the top down.
