Default Odometer reading

I have a 2001 z06, just started it after 3 months of being stored. My odometer read before storing the car 83,000 miles. Now it reads 23,ooo miles. I have shut off the car several times and restarted it several times. The odometer reading is still 23,000.
can anyone help me on getting my correct odometer reading

I've never heard of this happening. Are you sure some of the pixels in the DIC display didn't go out? You didn't do anything to the car while it was stored?

If it accidentally got changed to Kilometer from miles, the number would be higher, not lower. 83k miles is over 100k kilometers.

Another vote for display problem. Only takes about 5 failed pixels to turn an 8 into a 2... As with everything C5, check/charge the battery and see what happens.

The battery is fully charged, it's always on a trickle charge

If it is not the pixels going bad, then no idea how the number changed.

What happens when you drive it? Is the mileage increasing? When you switch to KM what does it read? What does it do when the key is first turned on, does it scroll properly. The initial turn on lights up the pixels as it sweeps, do they all light up?

Everything works correctly, mileage increases as it should. All light works as they should no different other then the miles is incorrect.

Time consuming but try unplugging it and plugging it back in.

There are people out there that can reprogram them to any mileage you want.
The mileage on these cars is stored in the cluster rather than the PCM, so you may have a cluster failure of sort.
The scary part is that you more than likely will find these people that can manipulate the odometer on Facebook Market or other social media.
You can always buy another cluster that is close to your actual mileage and sell this one as a 23k mile cluster if everything works on it.
If you cannot remember the actual mileage, check the last Carfax and Autocheck and go from there.
In some states, and Tennessee for instance is one of them, mileage after ten years of the car's age is exempt. It's no longer on the title. It only gets reported by service shops.
Just make sure if you have HUD to buy a HUD capable cluster. It will have a white connector on the back of the cluster at the very top.
