Had a pile of work done on the car last week. Mechanic said that the 04 had the fuel filters in the tanks so fuel filter is the one thing that didn't happen. Is this the case? Videos I saw online showed it to be external

Getting to the filters on the early cars is a lot different than the ones with the FFS fuel system

Yeah but what im getting at is with so many many post about mantanens is curicail then when its hard or to much money they don't change part That is LOLOL. There is no shortest or beer, not like parts for these cars. Just another example that kills me. Is when they a tick or not normal noise in valve train or whatever, they send to oil analyzes comes black with higher than normal of whatever then they say but i think its ok and then spend 3k on an exhaust system or whatever, and others will rebuild. Just saying when inconvenienced anything is sacrificed. SOOOO manitaine is not that important on these cars and over rated.

U know.?
Oh I know! I know plenty... I just don't know what you're attempting to say ... Perhaps try one more time.
To the OP, I can confirm that the fuel filter in the '04 is in fact inside the gas tank. We ALL agree that GM was incredibly stupid to do this. The ONE positive to having to replace my fuel tank on my '04 was that the fuel filter got replaced too.

My understanding is that the EPA wizards required it along with all the other BS located inside the fuel tanks.
My main bitch about GM was putting fuel senders in the tanks that could not handle being immersed in gasoline!!! DUHHHHHHH
VS
I agree. It is a filer and that requires changing when dirty like air/oil filters. If you are correct on the EPA requirements then why didn't the GM design geniuses design a reasonable access to replace? Because stupid is as stupid does.
If I were chief engineer for corvette I'd give the DIY'er what he wants. The ability to service your vette yourself using the normal tools a DIY'er would have in their garage.
- Removing the whole torque tube and trans to replace a clutch is ridiculous. (why not just give the ability to slide it rearward, remove the tube and replace the clutch)
- Removing the trans to get to the inside of a fuel tank is ridiculous
- Removing the dash to get to the steering sensor is ridiculous
- The quality of these ABS units (especially on C4's) is ridiculous
- I'd give the vette owner built in lifting pucs
- Low quality vibration dampers and having to remove the steering rack is ridiculous
- Battery acid spilling onto the PCM is ridiculous
