Yes, you are correct. The 3.15 diff can accommodate the 3.73 gears, or as far as I know any gear ratio. The reason I chose to replace the whole diff is because I didn't want my car to tie up the lift while waiting for someone to install the gears. In other words, I ordered and received the new diff before I started taking my car apart. And today I'll be shipping my old diff back to the builder. It does cost shipping charges but it doesn't tie up my lift for very long. I run a part-time business through my garage working on BMW, M-B, Porsche and Audi so it worked out better for me to do it in this way. And setting up the gears is not something I wanted to tackle. I'd much rather pay an expert.
By the way, I'd like to give a shout out to Murica Performance. They're the ones who built my diff. Jared is who I spoke with and he's great to work with.

Thanks. I will be outsourcing the proposed CAM & gears job to a performance shop I work with so I'm weighing the pros and cons of swapping in a new differential or just swapping in the new gears in the stock differential. I'm not a transmission expert so I'm not sure if any cost savings of just swapping the gears is offset by a more complex installation cost.
If your shop can install and set up gears in your diff, it would save you a little money in shipping costs. But it will also cause your car to be down longer. In my case, I installed the diff myself so I wanted a diff ready to go so as to keep the downtime to just a weekend.
3.15s i have same factory you could cruise75-8-90 2500 rpms easy. May i ask what rpm are you at at 70 and 80 mph now vs the 3.15s or what was the old highway rpm and speed and new highway rpm with same speed.
Alot of people use auto racecars not sure why i loved 6 speeds the gearing is a bit better but i guess a nice 4k lockup stahl could get you there.
Even back then i think 4 speed cars in late 60s 70s were faster.\
How are the base c6 shocks compared to the c5 shocks? c6 z06 shocks any different? I was told they put new shocks on mine since the f45 or adjustments oil had leaked out of valves leaving me normal base shocks which i prefer. The **** looks cool but the less wiring and f45 box is alot easier to work with.
How can you tell base c6 shocks from base c5 shocks?
I finally was able to get it out on the highway today. At 70, I'm hitting 2300 rpm. At 80, it's 2700 rpm. And at 90 it's 3100 rpm. I ran out of highway at this point so I didn't get to verify 100 mph but it looks like each 10mph is another 400 rpm, so probably 100 mph would be 3500 rpm. Not too bad, considering the extra pull around town at lower speeds is so much better. I dont have a problem with these rpms but I imagine on a long trip I would stay at 80 or below except for brief periods, for instance showing a Mustang what's what! lol
The C6 shocks feel good. Firm, but not overly so. Again, I'm going easy on acceleration for a while but cornering feels fine. I just haven't tried powering out of a curve yet. I do have some aftermarket front and rear sway bars coming later this week so I'm just about done with the suspension for a street car.
Good info. I have decided to tackle the rear main seal myself and of course while I am there will change the gearing as well as couplers, and bearings. Also an auto with 3.15 gears, was thinking about 3.90 gears however seeing your rpm/speed readings I think a 3.73 may be the ticket.

I finally just today finished the break-in miles that Motive says to put on their new gears. 500 miles of easy driving. I thought it would take forever but in reality just 3 weeks. And you wouldn't believe the amount of people that pulled up next to me, wanting to race. And there I was, not being able to do anything about it. But... their time is coming!
Anyway, it feels great now! It's like an entirely different car... very quick to get up into the rpms.
And being the stickler that I am, I drove it 500 miles before punching it.
