I plan on taking a number of trips in my 03, and I was wondering if it's 'Theft-Lock' system is Ok or is there a better of more comprehensive type of system ? On my last 03 I had 'Lo-jac' system and I , you know tend to worry when stopping overnight at a motel ? What do you think ?
The existing security system is good enough to keep honest people honest. The sad truth is, if a good thief wants your car, they're going to get it no matter what security system you have. The best option is a well hidden GPS tracker. That way, you can at least find the car/ tell the police where the car is.
Your car is 23 years old and I submit it is not high on the list for theft, but I may be wrong. And if your car is a M6, it is not one that many young thefts know how to drive. If you want to have some simple added security for peace of mind, get a steering wheel lock bar and park close to the motel front doors. But best of all, enjoy your trips and make sure your insurance is paid up to date for the never ending Murphy's Law scenario.

And man isn't that a sad commentary................love my six speed. I'd be more concerned about vandalism than theft though. As stated, it is a 20+ year old car
If you have an A4, they make a locking device that slips over the shift **** to prevent pushing the button down, which prevents the shifter from moving out of "Park." I have one I use. IDK how effective they are, but they can't hurt. As posted, if they want it bad enough, they'll get it. Also, doesn't matter if they can drive a stick, or not. They'll learn, at your cars clutch and transmissions expense!!
This is so true, if you ever use a valet or just some shop who hires the young, My last purchased got here and the delivery driver came to my door and asked if I would back the car off the trailer ? a lot of young guys have either no hand to foot skill, or they just cannot figure out how to put the car in reverse, but in many ways, a manual is a great theft determent !
This is the BATAPS (Boris anti theft, auto protection system). It will work 24hrs a day, not drain your battery and can sense predatory actors from a distance. Plus, a pissed off, fully clawed feline that jumps on your skull and scratches the **** out of your face will be a persuasive theft deterrent. Plus, it keeps mice away.
A tracker and an alert app on your phone is probably good peace of mind. Selecting the safest parking spot at a hotel in a safe part of town is the most practical idea.
this or disconnect your positive on your battery. Takes two minutes and definitely a deterrent...but only after they're already in your car.
And when possible park just outside the window of your room. This way you can easily spot check when you like. Or if you're like me just fall asleep and check on it in the AM.

The security system on newer cars actually are quite effective. The problem with Lo-jack is that it is not supporrted in all locales from what I understand. I look at it this way - I park my car either under a light or as close to the model office as possible to help deter theft. Also, the possiblity of it being stolen is why I pay for insurance.
An Apple AirTag (or tile for Android) is only about $25 for a cheap tracker. You can hide it just about anywhere in a plastic bodied Corvette. In addition to removing the fuel pump relay that was suggested, adding a hidden toggle switch to the VATS would be an easy thing to do. Honestly, when I had my '03, I took it on a few overnight trips and never worried about it, most of cars in the parking lot will be worth more. Just have good insurance for piece of mind

I have a viper alarm system with motion detector and an apple air tag stashed away where no one will easily locate it. I normally “accidentally” set off the alarm before I call it a night just as a fair warning, there’s easier cars to go after.
I bought my Z06 last fall and drove almost 2500 miles home with it staying in motels along the way. I avoided big cities and interstates and stayed in smaller towns so motels were not high end but not dumps either. Didn't have any issues.
I have good agreed value insurance so if it got stolen I'd just get the payout and look for another car.
A lot of guys put car covers on when staying overnight. I think that would probably help as a deterrent but I don't because when traveling the car gets dirty and I don't want to have to wash it every night or put a cover on a dirty car.

You just replace one of your ignition relays with their relay that is remote control enabled.
Super simple. Super easy to work around IF you have a problem with it.
No thief is going to sit there and troubleshoot your vehicle that refuses to start.
Ravelco. It's old school, but it works. I have it in all my cars.
Won't stop them from flat bedding the car, but it will stop them from being able to start it.
A good combination is a ravelco and a decent alarm system--- zero chance they're going to take the time to try and get the car started with an alarm blaring.
But if I had to chose, I'd take ravelco over a audio alarm,
An inexpensive deterrent is a ground disconnect switch. Nothing works without the battery grounded. This is in my Nova, not for security necessarily, but more for long-term storage.
