Security chime when door open.
After many attempts to try and resolve the problem myself, I bit the bullit ( and a big bullit it was ) and took the car to a corvette shop called Corvette Mikes, in Burr Ridge, Illinois. A southwest suburb of Chicago.
So the first thing they asked for was diagnostic time authorization of 2 hours at $165 per. 4-5 days later they needed another 2 hours. And again I said sure, cause what else was I going to do.
Now the week before I had one of my shop students check out my A/C and with his electronic meter, he was able to determine the evaporator core was leaking. So I ordered an evap core and a heater core as they are right next to each other so while I had it open it only made sense to replace the heater core.
Back to Corvette Mikes. A week later they called and indicated the short was taking them into the dash area and they had no idea how long the diagnosis would take, so I had to give them an open check. I also asked them that since they were going to have the dash open could they install my evap core and heater core, and would they use the parts I had purchased? They said they would and the estimate for the A/C portion was $2,100. So the next day I dropped off the evap core, heater core, intake manifold gaskets and an oil pressure sending switch ( cause you have to take the intake manifold off to get the cage that holds the evap and heater cores out, so why not replace the oil pressure sending switch at that time ) So another week goes by and they call indicating that they were close to getting everything working and asked when I brought the car in was the horn working? I responded that I believe it did, so they were no on the hunt to fixing the horn. And as it turned out, the evap core and heater core I dropped off were incorrect, so they had to source those items . So I asked with the A/C and the short what is my bill so far: $5,000, and counting.
So after 6 weeks, the car was done. They had found the short, they had installed a new evap core, heater core, a new oil pressure sending switch, and fixed the horn. Total bill : $6,975.
It has been a journey, and when I drove at night , I played with every courtesy light many times because it was the first time those items worked since I purchased the car in February. Service Manager Bob < and Tech Manny were wonderful to work with.
