Hello all,
I've purchased a 2001 c5 base convertible to do some traveling this summer, as long as you're doing a lot of driving
at least find a fun car to do it in! The Goodyear Run Flat Tires look great, no cracks ,lots of tread.
The only problem is they are 15 years old. I'm definitely going to replace them before
starting my journey. I would appreciate advice on selecting a reasonably priced tire for city/highway
Thanks to all
I bought my 03 Convertible last year and it still had the original Eagle F1 run flats, Road so hard I thought the dash would crack, but being a convertible and some other factors, noise was going to be an issue at some point, So I went on the hunt for fresh new tires and I found General GMAX RS all the way around and I am very happy with them, very stable and smooth running and on many roads they are almost silent. All 4 under $950.00 and delivered By Amazon !
I will throw out a Second vote for General G Max in either the RS or the AS-05. May have to fudge the sizes a smidge for a C5 but it's been a while since I've looked.
They are often at least the sets we've bought made in the USA which is becoming a lost art in the tire world.

Running 15 year old tires is a good way to make a long trip a whole lot shorter!! Probably a good way to become much more familiar with your health insurance coverage!! In short: Throw them in the garbage. Your life depends on your tires. Buy new tires, PLEASE!!!! If you want a decent tire for a decent price, Toyo is a good brand. Continental is another. Like everything else, it pays to shop around. Good luck
You can save a bit of money with other brands, but its hard to beat the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 AS series. I installed a set last spring and it made a great car even better.

No fudging needed for the stock C5 sizes. They are readily available in factory sizes.

I have a low mileage 2000. Finally have to replace original's due nail in tire near sidewall. Didn't realize 22 years old was such an issue.
For those who suggest Continental Extreme Contact, the question I have is 'how do they perform in wet conditions'?
I will soon be replacing the tires on my '03 Coupe, and while I don't plan to drive the car when it rains, living in Florida dictates being able to get caught in sudden cloud-bursts without enrolling in Ted Kennedy's Underwater Driving School beforehand.

They're fine in the rain. Like any tire, they don't have the same performance that they do when dry. However, as long as you just drive normally on the street, you won't have any issues. The issues only arise if you stomp on the gas, or try to fling the car around a corner.

If you truly drive in the rain that much I would recommend the DWS 06 Continental Extreme Contact over the summer only variant. The car will still likely outhandle most peoples comfort levels while providing some of the best wet grip out there. and they're nearly silent.
I never take the car out with the intention of driving in the rain, but an inch in 20-30 minutes isn't unusual, and flash-flooding is possible. It's a weekend / date-night toy, and the only hard driving I do anymore is at the strip, 'maybe' once a year.

OK... Best to MOVE out of that place!" Go west young man" and drive free!
