Tire Options for a Nearly Daily C5 with a Stall
Hi everyone,
Getting very close to swapping in my 3.42 gears and a Yank PAS3400 converter. Can anyone recommend a good set of tires for an almost daily driver? By "almost daily" I mean I want to be able to drive in the rain, but I will leave it in the garage in sub freezing temps/snow and sleet.
I want to be able to put as much power to the ground with my new gears and converter as I can without sacrificing too much daily drivability. The car is stock otherwise.
Will Michelin Pilot Sports A/S 4 be able to get me some good traction with this set up? Anyone have any experience with my mods?

I think the Michelins that you asked about are just about the best AS tire that you can put on the stock rims. With that said, Paul has a good point about the Continental ExtremeContact 2. There is no question that the Conti is a better performing tire. It can handle the rain just fine as long as you understand that it isn't as good in the rain as it is on dry pavement (this is true of all tires, including the Michelin AS). The BIG drawback of the Contis is that they should not be driven on in temps below 40 degrees. Doing so can actually damage the tire. Ultimately, it's up to you. I think the Michelin will work just fine for you if you are just doing normal street driving. If you plan on pushing it a bit harder, the Continentals will hook and corner better.
Side note: If you plan on any major power adders within the tire's lifetime, you'll want to go with the stickier summer tire.

I did a lot of research and found the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06 + to be very highly rated in all conditions, I am very happy with them. My ride is stock however it gets driven pretty good, the tires seem to have great grip and are very predictable when they do break loose.

You will need a drag radial if you want to maximize your car from a dig. You won’t be able to load the converter much or flash stall it. Street tires will spin. I run street tires with a 3.73 and yankSS 3200. Best 60’ is 1.97. Car is noticeably faster, but I still want to try a drag radial someday. I run a 305 30 19 tire too. So, technically, any street tire will be fine, Generals, Bridgestone, Continental, nitto, etc…

I have the Michelin PS AS/3 and love them for smooth and quiet ride quality. If you want to roast them, you might consider some cheaper tires.

I have Conti Extreme Contacts on my 2000. They're utterly fantastic daily drivers. Quiet! Just today on the way to work we have some good bends and it was wet. I tried to push it around a 90º bend... but didn't push it enough.
Car held like it was dry!
My buddy was so impressed he put them as winter tires on his 2021 Mustang GT500!
