Default HVAC display.

02 convertible. Is there any way to increase the brightness of this display? Any 3rd party replacements? With the top down during the day, the temp display is unreadable. Clearly GM had no Human System Engineers in 01 when they designed this.

It can be repaired. Look on YouTube there are dozens of videos on how to repair it. There are also several places that fix them.

I had the same problem in my 02 vert. During the day with the top down you couldn't see the display at all. Fixing it yourself involves opening the HVAC unit and resoldering certain components. I sent mine to ABSFixer.com because they did a good job on my EBCM. $75 and it was back to me the same week. It's as bright as my radio now.

Your 8 resistors are loose. Can be resoldered easily. Many threads/YT Videos about it. If youre not comfortable doing yourself, try Travis@Vettronics. Phone# (618) 975-3607. Probably $65-$75.

It just needs to be resoldered. Careful removing the center consol. The plastic is brittle, and the retention pins can break easily.

My 04 was dim too. Re-soldered them myself. If your not skilled at soldering small parts you might want to watch some YT vids about soldering techniques. I wasn't and getting just the right amount of solder and getting it to flow was the hardest part for me. Took me about 1.5hrs total + buying a solder gun w/a small tip and doing some trial and error.

One thing I didn't mention in my earliest post is that Travis@Vettronics can also replace all of your burned out bulbs, of which I had many. While he's in there he can also replace all of your bulbs with LEDs, and he can even color coordinate your bulbs to several different colors, like red, blue, etc. Just a FYI.....

There are links on the internet that will trade your old "core" for one that they have repaired, so they say. From what I have read its a soldering problem on the board, where solder joints have come loose or broken. Forget GM! They don't care and have NO replacements. They will barely touch a C5 at their dealerships, in my experience. I have a 2004 Z06 Commemorative that I bought brand new. I've had troubles with my display for years and now it just is dead. Everything still works, you just have no lights on the display, so, no visual clue. No spares & No cares. Gone are the Good Old Days of GM.
