douglasjre........I have no issues with breaking the vent. This has a little clip that grabs the back side of the vent and then snug it down with the adjuster right behind the holder and it does not move nor break. I have had it on and off several times when removing the bezel around the stereo, never even heard a crack.
I ordered one yesterday. Came in less than 12 hours. I put it in my Tacoma to test. Probably not the smartest thing to do but I put some pressure on it and can't imagine it breaking the vent. Only cost $12 total.
I have one and I'm kind of a fan. It blocks the radio volume and seek buttons a little (i play music through an iphone plug). No worries about it snapping a thin plastic vent
I've always wanted either a pro clip or now the course one (never seen before today though) but $90 is steep to fix a minor inconvenience.
The biggest plus for me with the Proclip is one hand in and one hand out. No need to squeeze any tabs to release the phone. Combine that with the magnetic charging cord and it's more hands free than others I have seen.

I got the cheapest Course Motorsports one ($55 right now, they also have a 10% off coupon), and am only using the bracket and ball that screws into bracket. I had another separate phone mount with a ball socket that fit perfectly. (and one-handed operation)
