I've been thinking of chopping my mufflers off I have no cats so it would just be straight up pipe. I wanted to get a second opinion before I just go ahead and do it. So yes this car is my daily, I daily a corvette, but i love the car and plan on getting a little economy car and keep the vette as soon as I get good credit. This is what I have done in terms of exhaust at the moment:
-borla s-type classic exhaust says its cat-back on the website but it looks axle-back to me
-Texas Speed long tube headers with x-pipe
chop off your mufflers and the car will sound like ****. It will be loud, but will sound horrible.
and illegal in most states.
I recommend against it -- plus, you don't have to chop the mufflers to get rid of the cats. AND, getting rid of the cats is also illegal in all states --- and they really take away an almost de minimus amount of horse power. Just leave them on.

Yep, it will sound like an old pick up with a blown exhaust.
Cutting the mufflers off will sound terrible! With what you've already done, the car should be more than loud enough. Especially if you daily drive the car, the noise will get really old really fast. Not only will the car sound like total ****, all your neighbors will hate you. Plus, the racket you'll make just during normal driving will draw extra attention from the cops. It's your car, so you can do what you want. There's no upside to doing what you're proposing.
Another thing to consider is that the Borla setup that you have has value if you sell it. If you go and cut it up, it becomes worthless.
You can have the mufflers cut off and pipe put in their place. Save the mufflers just in case you don't like the sound. You could put them in the trunk if you sold the car. I did it and I like the way it sounds. Your likes are all that matters. Those that don't like aren't paying for your car. Just plan ahead and keep the originals in case you need them. Have fun with your car. They make great toys.
I am ,one of the few, that has cut off
the mufflers with headers. Its not the
loud noise but the drone at 65mph.
I ended up, with a small Magnaflow
muffler ,that stopped the drone/
Good luck

I would definitely think twice before just cutting the mufflers off and going straight pipes.

You must LOVE pissing off everyone within 2 blocks of your car. Especially if you go for a Sunday morning drive to Dennys for breakfast@ 7:00 AM!!!
No. All of the best tuners out there do NOT use quiet and boring stock exhaust. Put another way, the vast majority of "advanced" high-performance Corvettes have loud aftermarket exhaust. The Borla S-type II and the ATAK exhaust on my two supercharged C5s are loud and wonderfully mellifluous. The sound of an "unfettered" V-8 is one reason I drive Corvettes now instead of my formerly owned fast but too quiet Porsche 944 Turbo that had been bumped up to 25 lbs of boost. If I want a quiet car, I'll buy a Rolls Royce.
