Recently developed vibration above 60MPH and have traced its origin to a cv axle with excessive axial play. Just wore out in 72k miles.
Looking for a replacement recommendation. OEM discontinued. Can purchase a Cardone reconditioned one or new aftermarket? I am leery of the $49.94 specials at online stores.
Car is a 2003 Z06 with stock driveline used for touring and daily driving. No track time. Any suggestions??
Thanks for helping - Tom

I recently went through this six months ago on my 2004 at 78,000 miles. My symptom was a huge pile of grease on passenger rear wheel. I discovered the same, ie, OEM not available despite vendor claims.
I went with the new one that NAPA sells. (NCV 94-0462) (My research suggested to stay away from Cardone.) It will have the same size hub nut, I believe its 43mm.
You will want to replace the differential seal while you are doing this (ac Delco 19259473.
Its not a tough job at all.
This is the first non oem part I've put on my car but there is no other choice. I did find a rebuild kit for the outer but not the inner. The outer is what failed.
So far so good!!

I installed a Trakmotive I got from rock auto so I though they were ok but they seem just a bit short.
Today 07/12/2023 I completed an inspection and they are rusting and have slop/play on the joint next to the Diff.
So I just did a quick edit to change my evaluation to stay from Trakmotive.
I installed the GSP NCV 10999 axles from Rock Auto in November 2021 and they balanced beautifully. They've given me about 5000 miles of trouble-free driving; my GM stockers lasted about 105k before the seals split and threw grease all over my wheels.
$63 per axle was a bargain.
I checked them this winter and saw the paint on the axles had begun allowing surface rust to form; I cleaned them and painted them with some Rustoleum 2-in-1 gray paint.
Looked at them the other day and they look great. If you get them, paint them with a thick coat of rust-shedding paint.
I took mine to The General to have the job done (I was scared after watching those videos of people wrestling with the Big Nut). I believe that what GM sourced was Trakmotive. I saved the ones that came off - but they will need rebuilding. When they did the job we also replaced the axle seals.
Ended up with using the NAPA NCV 94-0462. Couple of reasons - nearby shop had them in stock along with Trakmotive and I did side by side comparison. Looked like the outer CV joint casting was identical externally, torque tube was similar in diameter, but NAPA sounded like it had a thicker wall. The inner CV joint was definitely a better casting and cleaner machining. Can't comment on internals. a few bucks more but I'm happy.
Installed yesterday and initial impression after a short ride is big improvement in vibration level. Still a little but could be from a tire imbalance.
Quick question - in order to remove left axle from the diff, I had to remove the damping weight bar bell. Put it back on but wondered if anyone has experience with leaving it off?
