Default LED headlight bulbs

I am looking for an LED bulb set for my C5 that will not affect the headlight motors from going up and down. I bought something that says canbus ready, but my headlights wont go down.

Not on the way down. They don't even try.
I replaced the motors also. They needed replacing anyway.

If you are not using resistors, then the headlights will not go down after you turn off the car. I have newly installed LED headlights in my car, I have been advised to turn off the lights before I turn off the car.

I have tried turning off while car is running, it doesnt work. I don't know what resistors to use or where to put them. I was under the impression that the newer ones didn't require that. I think that is the question I am asking. "Are there any LED bulbs that will work completely and correctly out of the box.

There are a few thread out there where some have used a relay to trigger the lights to go back down. I followed the thread and made a plug and play harness. I have not had a chance to try it out yet, but here is the end product.

The C5 doesn't use canbus, so that doesn't really mean anything. The usual trick is to flip your high beams. With that said, putting LED bulbs in the stock housing is absolutely a terrible idea. In addition to the issues from lack of resistance, The light scatters badly. This will blind other drivers. In addition, while they create a super bright area right in front of the car, they don't provide good distance vision. They are just bad in every way.

Since you are looking at the knightdrive TV for a resistor, you should get the entire sleepy eye system. It will be MUCH better than just putting LEDs in you stock housing. If you insist on keeping the stock housing you need to get HIR (not HID) bulbs instead of LEDs. Good luck!

This needs to be shouted from the rooftops. LED drop in bulbs are garbage. Another forum I’m on has a member that has done extensive testing on the topic.

LED versus Halogen Bulbs

Yes, this is H11 vs 9006 but all the important points (emitter size, etc) carry over.

Disagree. LED bulbs are WAY brighter than the stock bulbs. There is some light scatter, but because the C5's headlights sit so damn low, it doesn't affect other drivers. I and many others with LED bulbs don't have any issues with oncoming driver's flashing their high beams at us to indicate blinding lights from our cars.

They seem brighter because they vomit out a bunch of bright light just in front of you. However, they actually make your distance visibility worse. I tried LEDs in the stock housing for a while. I now have a set of proper ACA headlights from sharp Light innovations. The difference is night and day! LEDs in the stock housing is just scattered light as opposed to a good solid beam with sharp cutoffs. Also, while LEDs in the stock housing may not blind someone in a full size pickup truck, they'll still blind someone in a Miata or another Corvette driver. Turn your headlights on at night, and then go sit facing your car in the spot where an oncoming car would be. You'll see how bad it is. LEDs in the stock housing should be illegal!

Clearly you didn’t read any of the linked article.

There’s tons of poorly focused foreground light, but nearly no distance throw. Foreground light isn’t what you need for effective driving, properly aimed distance light is key. That is what drop in LEDs do not have.

Compare the 42’ Lux values in the post here.

This is where LED bulbs fall flat and the mega bright foreground light disguise the reduced performance.
