First off, thank you all for the honest feedback. That’s what I was looking for from the Corvette Community.
Ultimately, I’d like this car to go to someone who really likes the C5 platform and is looking for some value - understanding we all have different value criteria when buying a car.
I’ll get the AC fixed, then gather up all my receipts, lay them out chronologically, address the details of the GM buy back, take copious pics, and put up a video of startup, etc…
If it is not clear, I am not after top dollar, nor trying to put lipstick on a pig - just want to find someone who will enjoy the car as I did.
The ac should be an easy fix just find a friend that has bought a ac recharge kit in the past and see if you have any pressure in the system. I am willing to bet it just needs recharged and you can do that yourself for less than $50.00. When charging the system you have the ac on high with recirculate on and shoot for 30 psi on the gauge when engine is idling. Over that and your high side pressure will get to high on hot days and below that you can run the risk of freezing over the evaporator core.
you still need to look at the relative bargain that the c5 is compared to others in its segment. This car has the right mods to attract potential buyers where as it would be a huge negative if it had aftermarket body panels and crazy paint scheme.
Had my ('98 coupe) AC sorted recently. All new seals were required as the old ones had dried out. Plus a new compressor.
Dude has so many (expensive) cars that he has a multiple lifts in his garage to store them all and wants a price check on one of them?
Hmmm... Seems like you know cars and obviously know your own cars and what they need. This forum has a for sale section and there are LOT of examples of C5's for sale on nation-wide car selling sites like cars.com and autotrader. Theres always the local (which you can expand the search on) like Craigslist and FB Marketplace. Tons of resources out there and condition of C5's. Just gotta put in the work with your fingertips.
Those old tires are dangerous. I’d throw inexpensive-ish tires on it, fix the a/c, and list it for $16k. An original, perfect title, unmolested ‘99 wouldn’t get more, it would just be a different buyer.
I’m a believer in setting a price close to the bottom line, and feel good about selling a good safe car at a fair price. A fully operational well maintained car with new shoes is always a good starting point.
Kelly Blue Book is a good source because their results are based on local sales prices. In the example below I used your car’s info with my Jacksonville area zip, so should be close. Good luck.
