Default Question about X pipe with muffler delete

Hi all. I just picked up a 1999 FRC and it came with an X pipe and muffler delete. It has DC sports tips on it that I assume act as mufflers. My question is can I replace those DC sport tips with something better/louder sounding without getting a whole new cat back system? Any suggestion

I can replace the tips with?

Unless there are baffles in the tips there is no sound reduction with a stainless tip.

But if there are baffles just get tips with no baffles.

Note baffled tips really do little to reduce sound.

if you have converters they do muffle some sound.

Just be aware open exhaust most places will get you pulled over at some point. Unless it is a Harley.

Not knowing just how loud your current setup is, hard to say what your proposed change would do to the sound. Hopefully whatever you do to the car does not run you afoul of the law or of your neighbors.

Yeah I am really just looking for an alternative to the DC sports tips that are more for Japanese cars. Nothing too crazy loud.

Have a look under the rear end, if there's nothing behind those tips and just pipes back to the cats then that's as loud as it's going to get with removing the cats. So swapping out the tips won't do anything to the volume.

Tips do nothing unless they are baffled.

Not sure why but I get a number of customers who think polished tips add to noise.

If you don't like the tips, then change them. They have no effect on sound at all. If you're running straight pipes with no mufflers, you're ALREADY crazy loud.

Adding cannon tips (like on trucks) will make it louder

#1 we are talking Corvette here. Second many of those tips are attached to larger higher flow pipes.with more flow. That is what increases the sound.it is not just the tip.

large chrome tips in themselves do nothing for sound unless it is a Monza like tip with baffles.

Tips are not normally a sound deadening device like a muffler, resonator, converter or smaller pipe.

I could write a book on the crazy things people come up with in the performance market.
That is why so many cars sit in garages unfinished with crap piled on them.

Your best bet budget wise is to see if you can find a titanium z06 takeoff.
By the time you cut the tips off pay for new ones and the have them welded on ( unless you tig weld) you’re going to spend as much money and time.
Buying a new cat back is pricey but look on eBay FB market etc and see if you can score the Z06 or a used aftermarket car back.
