Default TPMS Sensors

Anyone use Schrader TPMS sensors? I was going to do the 01+ upgrade but found that Schrader sensors are the same price for both styles.

You can get them quite a few places. I got mine from the same place when I bought my new wheels and tires and they came mounted. Just make sure you get the right freq for your car (315 or 433 MHz) and you have the tool to reset them.

I bought a reset tool for 9 bucks on Amazon and works great. You can also use a big magnet.

If you can find the parts for the -01 upgrade, it's worth it

FWIW, I have the older Schrader #28006 units in my '99 and they are working fine.

I did a post on this topic in the Tech section. TL;DR new sensors are fine if you or the shop has the activation tool:

I just put in a set of the Schrader 28006 in my 99 a couple weeks ago with no issues. Just make sure your not getting old stock, the first set I got from a local parts store was from 2016. The set I got from TR was 2023.

I have the same tool. I have to use it when I change from summer to winter wheels/tires on my wife's Turbo Regal.

I would recommend going with GM Genuine, that is what I am installing in my 2003.

The Schrader sensors may work just fine. I have always used sensors from GM as I know they work.

20117 Schrader sensors are what they recommended to me on their tech line today.

They are direct fit and will work with the simple reset tool that you can get on Amazon.

Advanced Auto has them reduced to $43 a piece,

Keep in mind GM does not make their sensors they are supplied by vendors. On is Schrader.

In fact tire valves are called Schrader valves as a type ni matter who makes them, Quality part.

I will use these in the wheels I am installing later this week.

I have a 2000 - is there a way to tell which version is needed by VIN or something?

Compatible cars years are listed on the sensor pages when you buy them usually. See my linked thread above, the sensors I got say they are for 1997-2000.

I purchased and had installed at the tire dealer 4 Shrader tpms sensors on my 2002 Vette Feb 11, 2019. The left rear just died after 4years and 7 months. The batteries are rated for 5 years of usage depending on stop and go traffic. I will be purchasing GM OEM tpms sensors this next time around as the batteries on these particular units are rated for 10 years of usage.

FWIW, Schrader is the supplier to GM..................

This is a picture of the original sensor that came out of my '01 C-5.
