C5 convertible weatherstrip
Has anyone replaced the 7 piece C5 Convertible weatherstripping and the one piece A-Pillar front windshield weatherstrip and? Stopping or ending leaks?
In no way am I criticizing corvetterubber.
corvetterubber is an excellent company selling excellent products.
Having the top replaced after almost 20 years?
I tried corvetterubbers 7 piece kit had it professionally installed with no adhesive and one of the windows were were adjusted. Unfortunately it leaked from every joint. After calling corvetterubber customer service I received a call from Mike at
corvetterubber and he immediately emailed a return label and issued a full refund.
I reinstalled the original weatherstripping and I got most of the leaks to stop.
However?
The car needs a new 7 piece weatherstrip replacement around the top and front windshield/A-Pillar weatherstripping replaced.
Advance Thanks for
Any advice or recommendations!
I am into your same boat and have done all the research required, in an hour time you will be able to replace everything that needs to be replaced to stop the leakage,
Although I agree with reath1 that OEM is probably better, but I opted for after market as it was more reasonably priced, and many fellows have recommended it
the part numbers you will require are the following:
10329158 = Weatherstrip Seal Targa Top Rear
10313370, 10313371 = Side Weatherstrip Seals Targa Top (right & left)
I recommend you use 3M 08008 Weatherstrip Adhesive tube
The instructions on how to do it are attached on the following links, i took it from GM service manuals for you
Lift Off Panel Weatherstrip Replacement
Rear Lift Window Panel Weatherstrip Replacement
Please make sure that you clean thoroughly during the process, if some old weatherstrip leftovers refuse to be removed, heat it with a hairdryer or a heatgun, there are clips / screws which might need to be removed, make sure you don't lose them or break something
I think this is gonna be a one hour job if you follow the procedures correctly
Good luck
Might want to check the door drains and the seal inside the door. If there is/was an obvious water trail near where the two interior trim pieces meet (around the seat tilt lever), it is possible the door drains are plugged *and* the rectangular door seal (behind the panel, about where your elbow sits on the armrest) is cracked or broken. If the door cannot drain, then the water back up inside the door. When it reaches the inside the door seal, if that is broken/cracked, it will over flow into the interior.
Find the "notch" in the door jamb. It matches the drain hole in the bottom of the door. One in the front, one in the back.
Also check the drain channel at the rear of the b pillar
The bottom of the picture is a CorvetteRubber C5 A-Pillar weatherstrip
the corners don’t match the OEM + the miters do not match the angle on the C5s fixed aluminum trim miter.
I ordered 2 C5 A-Pillar weatherstrips.
I ordered the first one from SteelRubber. The top corners do not match. Plus the weatherstrip is not molded with the correct miter angle as the OEM windshields aluminum trim miters. The miters don’t match the OEM aluminum windshield trim miters + the driver side corner was pulling apart at the glued corner seam.
I sent Steel Rubber pictures and they issued a refund and told me to keep the A-Pillar weatherstrip.
I ordered the second one from CorvetteRubber. I thought they were different manufacturers. The two were identical and I decided I to have a couple shops look at it and see what they thought. They both agreed the top corners are molded totally different + the mitered angles aren’t even close to the OEM mitered angles in the pictures.
I sent Mike at CorvetteRubber pictures of the miters angles did not fit the OEM aluminum windshield trim and he told me it would fit if I worked at fitting it. I took it to two of the best shops in the north Chicago suburbs and they agreed the miters don’t match the OEM aluminum windshield trim. I told Mike for 900$ I wanted a better fit. He then agreed to sending me a return label and refund.
Mike did send pictures of the Burgundy C5 Corvette Convertible that CorvetteRubber installed their A-Pillar weatherstrip on.
I’m hopin there’s another manufacturer out there with a fit closer to OEM.
