Re: Head Lights
Everybody had been raving about the Sylvania Sylverstars, so I put a set in the low beams on my Tahoe. Big improvement. The other option is to order some really high power bulbs from http://www.autooptiks.com They have euro spec bulbs in various wattages starting at $25/pair.
Just as an FYI, the Silverstars are 4000K color temp, and the closest one from autooptiks is an Astra with 3800K color temp. The Astras are cheaper, but you can pick up the silverstars just about anywhere now (and they have a $10 off rebate on their website for a pair).
Good morning Wausau Wisconsin! I spent my best years growing up in small town called Stone Bank, just outside of Oconomowoc and Hartland, Wisconsin. Anyway, as to the lights, there are a lot of options depending on how much you want to spend and your goal. Personally, I started with upgraded bulbs, actually used two different types but can't remember which ones. Then I installed the PIAA driving lights for around $200 when it was all said and one. Now I am adding the european lenses with PIAA bulbs. Of course there are also non-pops available and HID options for both pop-ups and non-pop ups.
The only real fix is to order the Euro headlight conversion kit.....uses a single 55 watt T4 bulb, which I upgraded to 85 watt PIAAs. Now I can see!
These lights are the exact item that GM puts in cars destined for Europe.....they carry GM part numbers. The light (housing) is glass instead of plastic, and casts a totally different beam pattern. Proper adjustment, as per the service manual for Euro lights, is a must. The setting are totally different from US spec lights. Adjustment is easy, but mandatory, otherwise you'll be blinding birds asleep in the trees.
The Euro kit is available from several Forum vendors, and usually includes easy-to-use wiring pigtails that convert from the stock 2-pair wires (for hi & lo bulbs) to a 3-wire setup.
Well take it from somebody that has experience with differant setups.I have the Euro code high wattage kit that has thicker gage wiring with relays and PIAA 90/135 bulbs.I felt here in Los angeles the lights were overkill being to bright.I took out the PIAA bulbs and put in H4 Silverstars was was blown away. The bulbs are similar wattage to stock and really put the light out. It's a bluish hue really bright light.Your best bet for the buck IMHO is the euro code assemblys with H4 silverstar bulbs and the harness to go from 2 bulbs per assembly to 1 bulb.
