Well, based on the grinding sound, it might be time for me to replace my 20 year-old driver's side window regulator. In searching online, a few GM sites list the OEM part as discontinued. As a result, does anyone know the OEM GM Part # for the driver and passenger window regulators? (Might as well grab a passenger one as well for when that motor gives up the ghost).
If the OEM GM regulators are no longer available, can anyone recommend a good aftermarket version?
I installed the Dorman I got from O'Reilly and worked great. Hardest part is not breaking parts taking off the door panels and buttons. Was around 150 dollars if I recall.
I just put in the cheapest highest reviewed Amazon special into my factory original drivers door in my 97 with only 40k miles on it.
The GM ones are junk. The new one is very nice. Smooth and quiet.
Just go straight to Chin er and be done with it.
That's where I will go next. In reviewing some install videos online, some mentioned that the aftermarket ones won't last as long so that's why I thought OEM. Even if they are junk, the first one lasted 20 years so I hope to never have to replace the new one I install. More concerned with getting the smooth and quietest one available.
Mine went from working perfectly to grind pop stuck down in one button push.
In all seriousness though, I think you will be shocked at how easy this job is. That is why I guess I don't care if I run no name units.
With all my tools laid out I'm confident I could replace one of these in 20 minutes.
Thanks for the pep talk. I've had my door panels removed on many occasions for various mods, upgrades, etc., and the scariest part is not breaking any of the plastic tabs, connectors, etc., when removing the panel. I've watched a couple of You Tube videos already and it looks pretty straightforward once you remove the insulation barriers, etc.
