So it's that time of year again to put the car away for winter and as always I clean all the items in the trunk (in the storage compartments.
I have way to much stuff for just incase something goes wrong. I did cut it down and I added a electrical meter and some wire repair things.
How much stuff is in your trunk.
I also have directions/reminders from CF posts and the trouble codes. I have a resistor combo and instructions if the resistor stops working in my key. I use the (just my luck) theory.
On a long trip with the wife close to nothing with no cell service and the car breaks down..................now what just my luck.
wow, quite the collection.
I have one of those $25 Harbor Freight tool combos in a hard case - wrenches, screwdrivers etc. Can o Fix a Flat, jump cables, and most importantly, FIRE EXTINGUISHER. I've been carrying extinguishers in all my cars for 20+ years w/o incidents... until this spring, wheel bearing failed & caught fire on the family ride, I was able to put it out before it lit the vehicle on fire.
Do recommend a 2lb fire extinguisher

Wow....If I had that much stuff in my C5, I'd pick up 2 mpg by removing it!! Just kidding, to each their own.....
I just carry a cell phone and have them bring what I need. Most times what i would have would not be right.
Agreed. There are damn few things on modern/electronics cars, which the C5 basically is, that are repairable on the side of the road. I once had headers melt thru an oil cooler line (shops fault) on the side of the Xway. I elected to fix it. Never again. Happened at 4:30, got home at 11:00 PM. Hardest part was jacking it up. That, getting rides to the auto parts stores, and having 18 wheelers whizzing by 3 feet away. Not the wisest choice I ever made. I was 65 miles from home at the time. But it all worked out, or I wouldn't be here......

The trouble is getting the parts.
I blew a radiator hose in 1985 on a new car. I had a screw driver and was at a large mall. But no parts store.
Gas stations sold beer and lottery tickets but no hoses.
I finally recalled a Sears service center that was still open. I got there about a mile away and he did not have a hose.
So I looked at what he had and found one close and longer. I cut it to size and made it home.
The truth is many things are no longer wire it up to get home.
just keep a phone with you and know a company with a good flatbed.
Also do not work on your car on a freeway. So many distracted drivers hit police cars they will likely hit you and kill you.

Dang! ...And No Jack?? Ha! Nice. Upper Right
Not really sure this speaks well for reliability, But OK. I can see it
Wow that's a lot of junk in the trunk! A scissor jack for the invisible spare tire? And no plug kit?
Cell phone and roadside assistance. But I always carry a plug kit & compressor, spare oil pressure sensor, socket swivel, 10mm deep socket , extension, sensor socket, ratchet, wire hanger, 2 inch piece of garden hose, needle nose and blue fuel line disconnect. All but the compressor fits in the trunk shade bag. Never know when the sensor is gonna fail on the low end & make the dash go off like a slot machine.
Other than the above its a hoody and a pair of sneakers in case I don't have cell coverage and have to hoof it.

I like the second last line! I guess you've never used either! Hopefully you used one of them!
The storage location, it was an old restaurant, about 100 cars fit. They keep it heated to just above freezing, and only charge $350.00.
I fear group storage like this with other folks cars. Too often I have seen someone with a old car and bad hose or line start to leak and then cause a fire.
I am lucky to have my cars in my own shop under my close eye and 30 seconds away so I can go work on them or do what ever at anytime. Remote storage is never fun. This is one thing to be truly thankful for.
I don't have a choice unless I keep it home in the driveway and it becomes a snowbank. I would love to work on it during the winter and not do the group storage thing, but for now it's not an option.
