Default Lost Tire Pressure Readouts?

Four days ago I checked air in all four tires and the TPMS readouts on the DIC all showed the changes.

Three days ago, I took the battery out of the car for 24 hours to clean the engine. After I reinstalled the battery this is now what I see on the DIC...

No "warnings" - just two tire pressures missing? Do I have to perform the relearn procedure? I have driven about 25 miles the past two days and no change.

I would go ahead and do the relearn. If that doesn't help get the PSI readings back, you may have a problem with either the sensors or the receiver.

How old are the sensors? They seem to last 10-15 years if my experience is anything to go on. My C5 (early '98) is still on its second set.

Looks like it must be the batteries in two of my tire sensors. Tried the relearn and Ft Left worked, but Rt Front - nothing. This is my 3rd set of sensors (installed in 2015). First set lasted over 10 years.

Is this the right part I need for a 2001 coupe?

IDK. Enter your MY and all data needed. If it says it works on 2001-2004, you're good. If it says '97-'04, AFAIK, there are no AC Delco sensors that can work for all 8 years of C5s. The '97-'00 take a more expensive type, and the '01-'04 take a different, cheaper type. Again, AFAIK, they are not interchangeable......

The two "versions" operate at different frequencies, so are definitely not interchangable. When I replaced my first set, I got new ones from Tire Rack. They were made by Schrader, who I believe was the OEM supplier, at least for the "early" C5's.

The first of (4) new sensors that I ordered from Amazon came in today (AC Delco OEM). Date code was June of 2019, so I guess I will be returning them.

I have a Discount Tire right down the street. I have purchased ALL my tires from Discount Tire for 30 years at that location. I will check it out!

I had ordered (4) from Amazon before I learned about Discount Tire. They came in (3) shipments, but looks like all (4) sensors are 2019 dates. I just wondered if anyone has received any sensors manufactured after 2019 the past three years?

I wouldn't worry about the 2019 date. They have Li-ion batteries, which last a long, long time. Also, they have virtually no electrical draw unless the wheel is spinning over 5mph. I still have the original, 24 year old sensors in my car!! 143,000 miles!! However, I've never driven the car in cold temps, and it's in a heated garage, which probably helps.

Hmmm... I had to disconnect the battery again a couple days ago and now ALL four sensors display blank on the DIC! Hard to believe that two sensors would die at the same time and the other two a week later? Could it be a receiver vs the transmitters going bad?

If you still have one of the sensors from Amazon hold it in your hand and try to train it to the car. If it works then you have bad sensors.

Finally got everything sorted out today.

Just to document the sequence of events I experienced...
  • Installed all new TPMS GM sensors in all tires 04/14 (Manufacture dates were marked 2012)
  • About 2 months ago I noticed the right front tire readout was displaying about 2 psi higher than actual pressure (measured with two gauges) - other 3 tires matched. I did not think much about it at the time, but it always showed 2 psi higher than my other tires (stuck on 34 psi)
  • Recently (when I started this thread), I disconnected the battery for a few hours and upon reconnecting, two sensors were not reporting anything on the DIC (one of those was the sensor that had previously been stuck on 34 psi)
  • A few days later I had to disconnect the battery again (just to clean the engine) and after reconnecting ALL FOUR sensors showed blank readouts on the DiC?
  • I tried relearn procedure and only LF and RR honked, but those pressures came back up on the DIC.
  • Today I decided to "test" the four new sensors I received from Amazon last week (still in the packages with 2019 manufacture dates). To test, I just sat in the car, started the relearn sequence and touched the donut magnet to each sensor in sequence. All four sensors honked and I immediately started getting sequential 1-psi low pressure warnings on the DIC. I started the car to take it to Discount Tire to get them installed and also got a 55 MPH Limit warning on the DIC as all four sensors were now reporting 1 psi sitting in my passenger seat.

All seems to be working at 100% again. I was conflicted about installing sensors that already had 4 years used up on the battery life, but the last set lasted 10 years and the Discount Tire sensors only had a 6 year warranty anyway, but next time I will probably have Discount Tire handle the whole deal.

One thing I find curious is why the new sensors reported 1 psi sitting in the passenger seat and setting off all the DIC warnings immediately, but even with two dead sensors in the tires, they never showed low pressure or set off warnings? It is like the system still knew the tire pressures were OK, but could not display and psi values? Mystery.
