Hello all, I have a C7, but buddy has a C5 and not on forums. He wants to do a cat back system, but knows nothing about them. --Just cat back, not a full exhaust-- He would pay to have it installed. He does not want a loud, obnoxious sound. Just something throatier, a bit louder is fine, something to wake it up a bit. Doesn't want the cheapest, doesn't want the most $$
He would also have it returned.
I'm looking for any advice or general consensus regarding C5 cat back systems. Good, bad, stay away from this brand.....
Borla.....I had Singers on my C5 and wife had Corsa on her 02...IMO the Corsa sounds tinny
best advice i can give is tell him to go to a Corvette show and ask to hear some cars...keep in mind headers will make a difference so he needs to compare something similar to his current setup
I had B&B on my '99 with LG long tubes and it was a little louder, but a deeper tone.
I had Borla stingers on my '99 FRC. They sounded good to me, but they are louder.
I had Z06 titanium on my '99 FRC. They were pretty quiet.
I had an old set of Dynomax on my '99 FRC. They were a deeper tone and a little louder, but still pretty quiet.
( I tried a bunch of exhausts on my '99 FRC and liked the Borla the best.)
The best advice was given above that said to try and listen to some. You might try at a club or a show. Also videos are not the same as real life sounds.
Mines very throaty while on the throttle. I’ve always liked loud exhausts that sound good, not fart cans on 4cyl Hondas.
LG longtubes, xpipe with hi flow cats and B&B bullet cat back. Have had this setup since about 2006, Dino 340 wheel horsepower through an automatic transmission. Longtubes will give you the power, catback is just noise or maybe 2 horsepower if your lucky. Corsa seems to be the only cat backs where people report zero drone. Good luck on your decisions.

Moving this to C5 General for more discussion.
I have had a B&B Route 66 exhaust on a 2000 and a Corsa Indy Pace Car on a 2003. Both were good quality systems, but the Route 66 had a lot of drone. The Corsa sounded great, at least to me, and had no drone.
B&B PRTs with speedway tips. I don’t think these tips are still available. They’ve been on my car for 23 years. I get a lot of compliments on how they sound.
My first '99 I had a Z06 Ti exhaust which was pretty tame, then I installed Dynomax headers and high-flow cats and x-pipe which really "woke up" the sound.
On mt '03, I have a GHL Bullet which I am thrilled with and the best C5 exhaust I have ever heard.
I bought borla stingers used they were to loud for the guy with a 98 mine is 2002 with pup cats and much quieter. Terrible sounding with h pipe had x pipe welded in and sounds great.
