Mine's in a box in the attic. It arrived jammed with 2 discs in one slot, managed to extract the discs but the unit still jammed. The cost to replace or repair isn't worth it to me; considering adding Bluetooth with the Discount Stereo kit.
Yep, got that plug in bluetooth as a current work around.
My CD Changer in the trunk has been identified as the culprit of parasitic draw. Currently attached and mounted, yet unplugged. I'm still a purist I guess. Can't bring myself to modernize the whole thing just yet.
Mine was trying to do something all the time even empty, (i could hear an electromechanical noise like trying to load or change disc) every few seconds. I too wish mine was working. I have the bluetooth but think using it for the way i like to listen, is a pita.
Agreed, pita to use. PetrofMII recommended the Discount Stereo Kit. I'm going to order that and see if it's a good fit. Search for it, it may just be what you're looking for.
Thanks for your input. That is exactly what I am trying to do, keep it original. One of the white plastic cd guides inside of the unit split. I sent a photo of the unit and the broken part to that guy in Texas, but I have not heard back from him. I most likely will purchase a used on from a forum member.
Ebay gets a regular number of them on there some tested done not.
Mine works but one jam last summer made me take it a part to remove the one disc.
I have read claims that if you move the changer from vertical to horizontal it will not jam.
I am going to do more research into a factory radio with a blue took upgrade so I can be stock but have CD and MP3. I just need to make sure of sound quality.

I thought I had a parasitic draw on mine but found was be a use the audio cd player remains active for a period of time then shuts off. You have to give tine to shut down. It cycles.

One of the repair services I researched last year said after the repair it mist be mounted flat vs hanging or it will fail again.

Yes that is the claim. I am looking got a set of used brackets to drill and try that since mine is still working. I want to save the original bracket.s.

Wow, it's great yours is still working. Any secrets to its longevity?
IDK how many forum members are aware of it, but mp3's do not have the full high fidelity of a wav file. They're OK, and you can store a lot of music on an mp3. But the full dynamic range and frequency response is not quite as good as either a store bought commercial CD, or a wav CD. FWIW......

Absolutely true! On the other hand, given the stereo system in our C5's and the background noise of the tires and engine, it's not like many of us would be able to tell the difference.
For real sonic clarity, play your vinyl records on a quality turntable with an excellent cartridge hooked up to an audiophile amp and listen through your Sennheisers. But I can't fit mine in my C5. (They set the sampling rate too low on the CD specs.)

With the tire, wind, engine and passenger noise, I really really doubt any human can tell the difference.
Audio sound in general is only as good as the source. Live is the best and records are second.
The truth is CD and MP3 that is well done on a decent system sound more than fine to most people. Many could never tell the difference anyway.
This whole deal here is some of us like to keep the cars original or more original vs others. The reasons are not only value but when a car is hacked up I always question the work behind the dash as some people can install a stereo and other can hack em in and the trim covers the hack job.
I like the convenience of a MP# on my phone. In my truck it sounds really great if the down load is done correctly and most of mine are. But the same content is not the same based on the Bluetooth adapters I have tried. Some are better than others but none are up to the task yet.
Also I hate the thing sticking out go the lighter.
There is good and bad to all of this and we all have our reason. I just wish we could have this topic come up with real good info to solve the questions asked vs the same old arguments cropping up.
I used to use MP# discs in my 6 disc changer before bluetooth came to cars. It worked fine and sounded good. But again it came down to the quality of the down load. While there may still be better it was more than acceptable.
Right now I want to find a factory radio converted to Bluetooth that sounds as good as my CD. This way I can do either and have no issues. Most I see have questionable reviews. I would like to hear from someone living with one that is well done.

Yes, but as loud as these cars are from street noise and tires, does it make any difference?
just as an FYI, since you already have the CD changer, pacific audio makes a box that plugs into the existing cable (under the passenger footwell) that has bluetooth and mini rca outs. You can plug or connect your phone to it, and stream to your existing head unit when you go to CD changer. IIRC, when I had this back in the day, the next/prev track actually worked on the head unit.
As for replacing the head unit.. the c5 came out right at the tail of CDs and the begining of streaming, there really isn't that much better out there. I had looked into this YEARs ago, I *believe* denon is compatible, but I can't give you much more than that. But it'll be just as hard to find a Denon in good shape as the stock unit, they've all been out of production for over a decade now.

Most modern phones let you store HD and/or uncompressed. Even spotify now lets you stream in HD. mp3s are a little old school these days.
Thanks to everyone for their input. I have removed my old unit. I think that I will use the single play head unit for now until I decide what would be best.
