I see alot of C5s that have door molding and others that do not. My '99 coupe has it and then I see other similar model year C5s without it and the package appears to be the same. Whats the difference?
The strips are as stated options and were intended to be door guards that were a styling element. They were never part of any package. The intent was yo make it look like a Stingray tail. People either love them or hate. Just a few are indifferent.
Soneone will likely pop in and tell you to take them off. Use care should you want to that the paint is not faded.
And yes it was true GM claimed they did add better aero numbers to the car.
Now they did not use them on the race cars so any benefit must have been very small if any.

When the C5 came out, I thought it looked bare without them and they’d be a must-have item for me. By the time 20-odd years went by and I actually bought one, I’d started thinking of them as possibly looking a bit dated and no longer minded as much if the car I’d found had them or not. To each their own
Oh the BSM debate will continue until the end of time…. I’m on the few side that actually likes them. I bought a set and added them to my 98 Convertible and they were on my list of wants when looking for my Z06 when I bought it last summer. To me they are just engrained in my vision of what a C5 should look like since I was 10 years old. My opinion is the car looks like a “base” model or lower optioned car without them. I do understand I am the minority in liking them though!

I think for me it’s also a bit colour dependent; they look better with some colours than others… or put another way, some colours seem to benefit more from having them than some others!
My BSM saved several probably noticeable door issues from careless car owners opening theirs. Agree, the car would probably look more streamline w/o them. They are staying on.
