About to pull the trigger on a Tick Performance shifter, figure I'd spend the extra coin and ball out on a high quality shifter (and high price yikes almost 600 dollars). Anything I should know about it before I go ahead and pull the trigger? I've heard great things about it, and I'm just looking for a high quality unit, only concern is how everything will look once it's all back together. I figure the shifter boot/ leather cover thing will just sag down and wont have anywhere to stay up. Anybody have finished pictures of the Tick shifter and how it looks in their interior?
Haha lol, I gleaned a lot from our conversation it was very informative, I rewatched your video on the Tick shifter and some other videos+ some forum posts and I've decided to go ahead and get the Tick. Might as well just spend the extra 150 or so over the MGW flat stick unit and get the best thing out there yk. I'll create a new thread whenever it arrives and detail my experience installing it/ first impressions.
Although I do have a question, is there anything I need that is not included in the Tick kit? Such as loctite or any gaskets? Just trying to be 100% ready when it comes, I'll also be taking to my hometowns drag strip (Carolina Dragway) for ***** and giggles.
Just noticed you've been a member since 2001! You've been here longer than I've been alive Glad that there's a resource like the Corvette Forums for us young guys.
The shifter comes complete. Maybe seek hex head bolts for the mount and linkage like suggested. And find a shift **** you like!
Twisted shifterz sells good ball *****. And Rpi makes great leather boots. EBay sells some nice spring metal mounts to glue to the leather which are a great upgrade over the plastic clips from the factory.
I really like my MGW and I don't see any shifter being THAT much better worth the price $200 difference. If the Tick was ~$50 more I'd try it, but not $200 more. https://www.mgwshifters.com/shifters/corvettes/88
I just put a Tick in last fall. I only drove it once before parking the car for winter. It is nice, and the install is easy. I wish it was a tad bit shorter, but its still way better than stock.
I changed the bolts to ARP hex bolts so everything when doing a shifter takes a 10mm socket.
I had a Hurst prior to going with the Tick. It is a very nice shifter, incredibly well made, and I like the longer shift throw of the Tick vs. the Hurst. I have not had an MGW but in my mind, the Tick is about perfect.
@Kubs have you driven/raced with an MGW? You previously had Hurst right?
I previously had a Hinson. I really liked the short throws, but the effort was high and it got old on the street.
I have tracked others cars with an MGW. The Tick feels very similar, on the street at least. I have a car with an MGW in my garage as well right now and going back and forth between the two they are pretty much identical.

How do you like the Tick shifter at this point ? Does it come with the threaded cylindrical shaft shown in the picture and is it 9/16 18 ?
I've got a Hurst that's been on the car since it was new. It's always been satisfactory.
With my new rebuild, I'm installing a TMod shifter box below the Hurst, because I can't seem to leave well enough alone. I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of the Tmod machining. I work for a large scale metal stamping and fab company, and am hard to impress with machining.
If I was buying a new shifter, it would be Tick or Tmod as they are "complete" units including the box stick etc. MGW is supposed to be complete as well, but I've just hear too many bad things about them.
