Nitto drag radials
So, I got the Nitto drags on the car finally. I live out the country, so headed out to try and launch the thing. I didn’t do any burnouts to heat them up, and I was running 32-33psi. Results were as expected.
First off, I’m not running extreme amounts of power, full bolt on coupe with 3.73 gears, 3200 stall. The tires grip way better than a street tire. From a 15mph roll, full grip.
From a dig, and loading the converter to about 2000RPM, tires spun a little, it did not deadhook, but that was expected since I did put them through any heat cycles or drop tire pressures.
Flashing the converter from a dig seemed to actually spin the tires more, traction control kicked in, car launched. Overall it was what I expected. Car shifted to second gear perfectly at 35mph, 2nd gear takes over beautifully with no tire spin on the shift. On street tires, in 55 degree weather, tires will spin from a 15 mph roll, car shifts to second, tires keep spinning halfway through second gear and then it finally gets traction.
At 30-35 psi in the drag radial, it seemed fine on the street, I wasn’t going extremely fast around corners, handling seemed normal, couldn’t notice a difference.
I’ll get 60 foot times at a drag strip this summer at some point.
I just wanted to post a quick review of what I experienced. Constructive criticism or pointers for drag strip runs are nice to hear too.
