Default Need Help

Hello Group, I recently inherited a 1998 vette, only problem is the engine was swapped by some professional place in Dallas to make it an entry level racer. I'm given to understand that it placed 2nd in the Big Bend race in 2013. Problem is I have no idea what engine is in it. I really don't want to dismantle the engine to find the casting numbers, I have how ever found laser etched number on the left rear of the engine. Top line is 5025UK second line is 620824, I was told it was an LS6 installed in 2010. But all this is hearsay. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you share some photos of the engine? What's the number etched on the front of the passenger side head - 241, 243, 799 etc.? Is there a number on the intake manifold? I'm sure we can help identify areas you can look to confirm, but pictures and some more data will help.

It has 243 cast into the block, so I think that means LS2. Laser etched on the rear driver's side of the block are the numbers below. I didn't look much past this...

I just realized that what I saw and posted above is on the head...sorry that was a noob error.....Where can I find engine codes, I saw somewhere online that they are on drivers side by the bell housing. also some say it in the front of the engine, but I would have to remove the alternator or more to find anything...I'm getting irritated....

And 243 heads are common to both LS2 and LS6 engines.

If it's an LS2 (Gen IV block), your knock sensors would be on the outside of the motor and your cam sensor on the timing cover.

There's certainly more to chase and verify here, but I'm leaning towards it's an LS6 block.
