I purchased the MGW and their Race **** this summer. I drove it "stock" at first, then tried the anti-venom mod with one washer, then the anti-venom mod with two washers. That mod makes a big difference and I like it more with the two washers.
Didn't like the Race **** as much because I tend to hold the shifter from the top and have larger hands, and the dieamter ended up being a little small in my palm, but nice if you grip it from the side. I am switching it out for the their round Gripper Shift **** that is easier on the palms, and got the heavier one.
My second choice was the TMod Customs with the C6 shifter, and I wonder if I may have liked it better since I ended up modifying the MGW to shift easier.
I have an older Hurst shifter, installed by the PO back in 2009. The shifter **** is a Hurst billiard ball units - no rattles, but the upper stick has some old lead weights taped wrapped to it - sort of mass dampening, hidden from view by the outer shifter boot. I did the anti venom mod which helps, but what really brought the whole setup together for me at least was the TMOD modified lower factory box. If the shifter you select does not come with a replacement lower box like the MGW, then make sure you get the TMOD lower box. Don't forget to replace the pivot ball cup bushing if your shifter is designed to incorporate the factory bushing. I got mine from Core Shifters;
Yes you need to match sure you get the neutral center location set and dialed in. If your shifter has positive throw stops, those must also be properly adjusted. Lastly if you shifter has adjustable side to side bias assist for helping to more easily locating the center 3-4 gate, that needs to be done / set / adjusted / dialed in to your individual tastes.
I have an old Hurst Shifter and installed a TMOD box recently. It's still breaking in, but the shifter action feels like a Mauser rife action. Buttery smooth...
I bought my car with a MGW with the anti venom mod already installed and it felt great, a little clunky for my taste but still. Then i added a billetworkz weighted **** and it feels pretty much perfect for my taste. Smoothed out the shifting a tiny bit.
Big fan of the Tick shifter with a C6 **** and the anti-venom mod.
tried to respond to your post but I think it entered a separate note. After quite a bit of research and hearing a lot of good suggestions. I am going your route.
I have installed the MGW unit on three cars and it has met or exceeded expectations each time. Well built. You can feel the quality in each shift. Precise, Consistent, No rubber rope slop.
I put the MGW in mine about 10 years ago. Its nice but does feel a bit notchy. Its properly aligned I've read has something to do with how the gears in the trans are cut as the shorter the throw the bit harder the shift.
