I picked up a new OEM hood liner today from my local Chevrolet dealer for $238 list. So they're still out there just FYI.
Has anyone had luck with preventative measures to keep these from getting destroyed? I was thinking of spraying the whole thing with high temp grille paint?

Nice find and I'm sure a rather rare item at this point. The high temp paint may help. Perhaps a clear coat would help if water stains are causing problems.
Unless you drive your C5 in inclement weather I'd just leave it be. I have the original liner on my 2001 and it still looks brand new. I haven't done anything to preserve it. If anything I'd spray it with a fabric guard product like 303 protectant.

My '99 still seems to be in fair shape -- what has deteriorated on yours? Softer, edge loss? Just curious I suppose.
It's pretty faded, and the edges worn out to where the layers are separated. There are also some water stains from the few times it was driven in rain and such.
